Where do I find PDF copies of this year's 1099 - Misc & 1099 - NEC?

Yesterday I ran my 1099 - Misc. When I was done I found a PDF copy and copied it to my computer tax folder naming it something meaningful to me. the file had the full 1099 form, not just the text that QB prints. Today I ran my 1099 - NEC. I can't find the PDF file anywhere. I thought I found them on the server under Company Files in possibly Tax forms or Tax Form History folders. I have searched everywhere and have not been able to find the files anywhere. Does any one have any suggestions? I talked to QB and we both looked, but didn't find them.

Saving 1099 copies in QuickBooks Desktop is a little different from the regular employer forms, JeanG.

They're also not saved in the Saved Filings section since 1099s are processed through the Vendors menu and not in the Payroll Center. This is also the reason why they're not saved in the Tax Form History folders.

As a workaround, you can scan the printed copy of the 1099 NEC and save it your computer.

Hello @JeanG.

I'd like to confirm that you mean you e-filed and would like a copy of the 1099’s for your own records. If this is the case, once you've created and submitted your forms, you may find you need to view, print, email, or mail them. You can reference this article on how you'll do this: 1099/Tax/Where Can I See My Submitted Forms?

If you're trying to save PDF’s to print and file via mail, the process is a bit different.

You can reference this article on what you'll need to do to print these forms: How do I print my 1099 forms?

I'd love to know how this goes, and if this was a solution for you! If not, please let me know so we can take a look at other possibilities for what you need to get this checked off your list! Have a fantastic weekend.

Where do I find PDF copies of this year's 1099 - Misc & 1099 - NEC?

Hi Jessica,

I didn't e-file, I printed on pre-printed forms and I printed using the method you referred to. After I printed the 1099 - Misc I was able to find a PDF file that had the form included. When doing the W2s I have the option to save the W2s and interview, which has the W2s and the form. I just can't find it for the 1099 - NEC.

Thanks for this update, @JeanG.

I'm working hard to find the best solution for you. If possible, I'd like to check something on your end to see what might be causing this issue. After following these steps:

  1. In the File Menu, Select Print 1099/1096's.
  2. Specify the date range for the forms then choose OK.
  3. Select all vendors you wish to print 1099s for.
  4. Select the Print 1099 button.

Do you see an option in the Print Settings for "Print a Sample?" This option should allow you to "print" to a PDF with the 1099 template included, as you describe. Let me know what you're seeing on your end. If that option is unavailable, we can look into it further.  Thanks for your patience as we work toward a solution!

Where do I find PDF copies of this year's 1099 - Misc & 1099 - NEC?

Hi Jessica,

If I choose print 1099s from the file menu, it takes me to the same place as if I chose Vendors > 1099 Forms > Print/ E-file 1099 Forms. This takes me through the steps of printing the 1099s

...Do you want to print/e-file 1099 forms <yes>

    Choose Form 1099 NEC or 1099 MISC <Get started for 1099 NEC>

    Select your 1099 vendors <continue>

    Verify your 1099 info <continue>

    Map vendor payment accounts <continue>

    Review payments for exclusions <continue>

    Confirm 1099 entries <continue>

Choose filing method - print of e-file <Print>

Select date range <last calendar year>

    Print form

Preview - this give me a preview with only the information that is typed on the preprinted form

Print 1099 - this takes me to my print screen to choose a printer. If I choose the PDF option for a printer, it creates a PDF with only the information that is typed on the preprinted form.

Other options on Print form screen: Print 1096, Cancel, Help, Select all, Select none

This has me befuddled. I have proof that I created a PDF file with the form with my 1099-MISC. I just can't do it for the 1099-NEC.

Thanks for the detailed information, JeanG. Let's figure this out together so you can print the 1099-NEC forms.

The 1099-NEC update is included in the updated tax table. You'll want to make sure that the accounts are properly mapped for both the 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC forms.

Here are a few articles related to 1099's for additional reference and guidance:

Please let me know how it goes. I want to make sure you're able to print your 1099-NEC.

GlinetteC, Thank you for your advise. The problem is not with printing the 1099-NEC. I have already done that and they are ready to be mailed. The problem is when I created the 1099-MISC I ended up with a PDF file to store that had the complete form, but when I created the 1099-NEC the PDF file created only had the information to be typed into a preprinted 1099-NEC. I would like to have a PDF with the complete form.

Thank you JenoP. Reminding me that they are from the Vendor portion of QB makes sense why there is not a copy in the tax history.
