Let me make it up to you, Erik13.

There are several reasons why the sales tax isn't calculating. It could be your customer is tax-exempt or the product is non-taxable. We'll go ahead and check them out.

First, let's check your customer's profile to see their tax status. here's how:

  1. Click Sales.
  2. Go to the Customers tab.
  3. Select the customer, then click Edit.
  4. Go to the Tax info tab and check the status.

Then, we'll have to check the products and services. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Products and services.
  3. Select the item, then click Edit.
  4. Check the Sales tax category.

Also, you can run the Sales Tax Liability report to view your sales tax info anytime.

Get back to us if you have other concerns. We'll be right here to help you. Take care!

Thank you for your response but no as I said in my question - the customer is not tax exempt and the item is set to taxable.  They are in our state where the tax settings are automatic but it is not generating any tax on those skus that are marked as taxable?

I appreciate for getting back to us and for sharing some clarification, Erik.

There’s a possibility that this issue is caused by cache data. The browser uses cache files to help load the page faster on your next visit. When piled up, this causes an issue that prevents the program to run properly. Rest assured I've got some steps that we can perform to resolve this.

Let’s access your account in a private window (incognito) to resolve this. Using a private window doesn’t save any cache files. This can help us verify the issue easily. To start, here are the keyboard shortcuts you can use in opening a private window:

  • Press keys: Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome browser)
  • Press keys: Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Edge browser)
  • Press keys: Command + Shift + N (Safari browser)

If the taxes are calculated correctly, I’d suggest clearing your regular browser's cache to refresh the system. If not, try using other supported browsers so we can check if this is a browser-integrated issue.

Once everything is in place, you can file your sales tax return seamlessly. To be guided through the process, you can check out this link for reference: File your sales tax return and record tax payment in QuickBooks Online.

You can always get back to me if you have other concerns or questions about your taxes or filing your tax return. I’m always around ready to assist you. Take care!
