by Intuit•43• Updated a day ago
Learn about your state's requirements for filing 1099s in QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Contractor Payments.
If you filed your 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC forms with the IRS, you may also need to file with your state. Read below to learn more about your state requirements for 1099s.
Note: If you e-file using Tax1099 in QuickBooks Desktop, see this State Filing Tax1099 article to see what states are supported for 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC e-filings.
1099s supported
QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Contractor Payments supports filing the 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC forms in states that:
- Don’t have withholding-based filing requirements
- Participate in the Combined Federal/State Filing (CFSF) program.
When you submit your 1099 forms, we’ll forward them to the IRS. The IRS will then send the info on the 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms to the states that are part of the program. Some states still require you to submit these forms directly to their agency. If that's the case, we'll give you the info you need to complete the process yourself.
Your state may have additional requirements for you to file 1099s based on your business location. Refer to the details below.
States supported
Use this table to identify which states you can file through QuickBooks Online and which states you will have to file directly with their agency.
QuickBooks currently doesn’t support e-filing for states that require direct filing outside of Combined Federal/State Filing (CFSF), e-filing for states when there is state tax withholding, e-filing when the state threshold is below federal threshold, or multi-state e-filing. You are responsible for understanding your state requirements. If you have questions, please check directly with yout state.
