Troubleshoot tag printer issues

You may encounter any of the following errors and issues with your Tag Printer. Follow the steps outlined below to make sure you get back to printing tags in no time!

Error: Barcode Active X class not registered ActiveX TBarcode 3.0.ocx

Printer appears to function properly but the labels are either blank or have very faint printing

Tags not printing

Available designs field is blank or only showing Avery labels

Jewelry tags are printing in between the tags and cutting off while using the Zebra LP 2824 Plus printer

Printing issues may occur if:
  • Printer is not compatible with QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale
  • Thermal paper is not properly placed in the printer
  • Printer is not connected to the computer
  • Printer is not configured on the Point of Sale preferences
  • Printer is offline
  • You are attempting to print to non-thermal tags
  • Damage to the Zebra printer driver installation
  • Some Zebra printers were shipped with incorrect power supplies that did not supply sufficient voltage to the printer
  • Printer drives are damaged

Solution 1: Ensure the printer is turned on, cables are properly connected, and paper is available

  1. Disconnect and reconnect the cable running from the printer to the computer at both ends.
  2. Ensure that the printer is powered on and properly plugged in.
  3. Check that the paper is not printing on the wrong side. Note: Use a coin or your fingernail to scratch the thermal paper to test which side prints correctly.
  4. Ensure the power supply runs 20 volts. Preferably, use the stock power supply.

Solution 2: Configure Point of Sale preferences

  1. Choose File > Preferences > Workstation.
  2. Select Documents & Printers. Make sure your printer is selected on the appropriate line.
  3. Make sure an appropriate Template has been selected for your printer.
  4. Select Save.

Solution 3: Verify the printer is online and the queue is empty

  1. Select Windows Start and select Control Panel.
  2. Select Devices and Printers.
  3. Right-click the printer that is not printing. If Use Printer Online is available, choose it to bring the printer back online.

Solution 4: Check printer properties to ensure the correct USB port is selected

  1. Select Windows Start and choose Control Panel.
  2. In the View by drop-down, choose Small icons.
  3. Select Devices and Printers.
  4. Right-click Zebra LP2824 and choose Printer properties.
  5. Select the Ports tab and select the correct USB port for the printer. If you do not know which one is correct, contact the manufacturer for the computer.
  6. Select OK.
  7. If USB is not an available port then connect the printer to another USB port and follow steps a through e again.
  8. If no USB port is still detected after trying all the ports on the computer then one of the following issues exists:
    • The USB cable may be defective. Consult the vendor that the printer was purchased from.
    • The computer may be unable to recognize USB devices. Consult your computer manufacturer for assistance.

Solution 5: Print a Windows test page

  1. Select Windows Start and choose Control Panel.
  2. Select Devices and Printers.
  3. Right-click on Zebra LP2824 and choose Printer properties. If more than one Zebra printer available, attempt the test page on each one.
  4. Select Print Test Page.
    • If the test page is successful, open QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale and attempt to print a tag.
    • If the test page does not print, cancel all documents to the printer and restart Windows:
      1. Close the Zebra LP2824 Printer Properties window.
      2. Double-click on the Zebra LP2824 printer and double-click See what's printing.
      3. Choose Printer > Cancel All Documents.
      4. Restart Windows.
      5. Delete the printer and then reinstall the printer.

Solution 6: Bypass the Windows print spooling process

  1. In the Printers window, right-click the printer and then select Printer properties.
  2. Select the Advanced tab and select Print directly to the printer. Select OK.

Solution 7: Reinstall printer drivers

Right-click the printer from the Printers window and choose Remove Device. Reboot your computer and let Windows try to reinstall it automatically. Note: Follow Zebra printer installation instructions, to reinstall the printer manually.
