Add or edit a VAT rate in the QuickBooks Online app (iOS only)

Learn how to add or edit a VAT rate using the QuickBooks Online app.

Do you want to add or change a VAT rate using your iPhone or iPad? In this article, we'll show you how using the QuickBooks Online app.

Add a VAT

iPhone

1. From the Menu ☰, select Settings.
2. Select Tax Rates.
   Note: If this is your first time, you'll see an introductory screen: Select Add tax rate to get started.
3. Select Add a new tax rate, then select whether that rate is Single or Combined.
4. Select +, then select Single sales tax rate or Combined sales tax rate.
5. Enter the following information about the VAT rate:
   • Single rate: Add the information for each component (Tax Rate name, Agency, and Rate).
   • Combined rate: Add the information for each component (Combined Tax Rate name, Tax Rate Name, Agency, and Rate).
     Note: Combined VAT rates can include new and existing rates.
6. Select Save.

iPad

1. From the Menu ☰, select Settings.
2. Select Tax Rates.
   Note: If this is your first time, you'll see an introductory screen: Select Add tax rate to get started.
3. Select Add a new tax rate, then select whether that rate is Single or Combined.
4. Select New Tax, then select Single Rate or Combined Rate.
5. Enter the following information about the VAT rate:
   • Single rate: Add the information for each component (Tax Rate name, Agency, and Rate).
   • Combined rate: Add the information for each component (Combined Tax Rate name, Tax Rate Name, Agency, and Rate).
     Note: Combined VAT rates can include new and existing rates.
6. Select Save.

Change a VAT rate

iPhone

You can edit single and combined VAT rates (including their names). However, you can't edit the name of a tax agency associated with the rate.

1. From the Menu ☰, select Settings.
2. Select Tax Rates.
3. Select the rate you want to edit.
4. Select Edit ✎, then make your changes.
5. Select Save.

iPad

You can't edit a VAT rate on the iPad. However, you can edit a VAT rate from QuickBooks Online on the web.

1. From a Mac or PC, sign in to QuickBooks Online.
2. Go to VAT.
3. Select Edit VAT ▼ dropdown, then select Edit rates.
4. Find the VAT rate you want edit.
5. Select the Edit link.
6. Make your changes, then select Save.

Change a VAT rate in a transaction

You can also add or edit a VAT rate within a transaction including quotes, invoices, and sales receipts.

iPhone

1. From the Menu ☰, open the quote, invoice, or sales receipt with the VAT rate you want to change.
2. Select Edit ✎. A list of VAT rates will appear.
3. Select the VAT rate you want from the list, or select + to create a new rate.
4. Edit the rate.
5. Select Save.

iPad

1. From the Menu ☰, select Sales.
2. Select the quote, invoice, or sales receipt with the VAT rate you want to change.
3. Select Edit ✎.
4. Next to VAT, select the VAT rate to see the list of available rates. If there is no VAT available, select Select Tax.
5. Select a VAT rate from the list, or select Create a new Tax Rate to create a new one.
6. Select Save.
