To get your VAT rates ready for your suppliers, head over to the Apps and select the Tax tab on the left-hand menu, which opens your Tax Overview page.
If you’re starting fresh, QuickBooks will guide you through a quick setup wizard. Once activated, the system automatically loads the standard South African tax codes for you. You generally don't need to manually create a VAT rate, as it is usually available in the dropdown menu.
However, you can always add a custom rate by clicking the Add Tax button in the top right corner. Just make sure to check the Purchases box during the setup to ensure the rate applies to expenses or bills.
