Employees and Payroll
Hi Gillc,
Thank you for contacting the community.
Both our payroll systems will automatically update the tax codes when you advance your payroll to the new tax year.
A message will appear on the screen to let you know this has been done.
Alternatively, you can change them manually within the employee settings on both systems.
On QuickBooks Online Payroll click Employees in the top left corner, select the employee and then in the Tax Information section you can update the tax code.
On our PaySuite system just click on the employee's name to open the employee settings page, then click the Tax and National Insurance tab on the left. You can then update the tax code on this page.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help with. :)

Hi Isaacstaff,
Could you confirm which payroll system you are currently using?
When you click into Employees, do you see Powered by Paysuite in the top left of the screen?

Can we have an answer to this?
Has PaySuite decided that the P6 tab is not necessary?

Hi SalB,
Thank you for contacting the Community.
The P6 tab is not necessary as you can change the tax code within the Tax and National Insurance screen of PaySuite.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with. :)

Hi SalB,
The Tax Frequency and Period can be entered under P45 section.

My apologies, you would need to confirm those details with the HMRC if all you have been provided is the P6.
Please let me know if there is anything else we can help with.

All I can say is that I disagree that the P6 tab is redundant. Have you tried contacting HMRC? I have better things to do than sit on the phone for an hour!

The only thing I can really suggest would be to leave feedback to do this select the Cog Wheel in the top right of your dashboard and then select Feedback this will then go to our product development team.

Employees and Payroll
Hello Stathern Garage Itd,
Welcome to the Community page,
Can we ask what payroll you are using is it standard, advanced or paysuite?
It might be a cache and cookies issue, can you please clear them and then try again, you should be able to edit the tax code in the employee setting section and save it.

Employees and Payroll
Hi there,
We're having a similar issue as where an updated HMRC P6 tax code notice is not applying correctly in QuickBooks Payroll, and the software continues using the previous tax code on the employee payslip and FPS submission.
We have already:
- deleted and recreated payslips
- rerun payroll
- manually overridden the tax code
- tested in incognito mode
However, QuickBooks keeps reverting back to the previous tax code automatically.
HMRC confirmed the RTI feed is working correctly and advised this appears to be a QuickBooks-side application/sync issue rather than an HMRC issue.
How can this be solved please?

Since you have already tried recreating the payslips, rerunning payroll, and testing in incognito mode, it sounds like a deeper backend sync issue is preventing the HMRC P6 notice from locking into your QuickBooks Payroll settings.
Because HMRC has confirmed that their RTI feed is working correctly, we will need to look directly into your specific account data and payroll logs to resolve this reverting glitch. I highly recommend contacting our live support team so they can securely investigate the backend connection.
Here’s how to reach them:
- Click the Help icon, then select the Assistance tab.
- In the box provided, briefly describe your issue or type Contact Support.
- Choose either Chat or Callback to connect with an agent.
