PA State Department of Revenue - Employer's Withholding Tax Account Reinstatement
Hi,
RE : PA State Department of Revenue - Employer's Withholding Tax Account Reinstatement
I have closed the PA State Department of Revenue - Employer's Withholding Tax Account meant for holding Employees' state tax effective 31-Dec-2022. A month ago on Nov 11, 2024 I have submitted a request wth this agency online to reinstate the old account but no response till now... Is reinstation of old accounts possible ? Or, Should I start over and submit the PA100 application form again for a fresh new tax account ?
Your response is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bala

@Bala4 Unless an accountant who has PA clients happens to see your question, you're probably better off contacting PA's Department of Revenue directly; this is much more on their side of the aisle than QB's, and I wouldn't expect any of the QB staff here to have any real answer for you.

In general, whether an old account can be reinstated depends on the policies and processing times of the Pennsylvania Department of Service. While you've already submitted a request for reinstatement, delays in response can occur due to various reasons, such as processing backlogs or additional verification requirements.
Below are a few steps you can consider.
Follow up on your existing request:
- Log in to your Pennsylvania state tax portal to check for updates or notifications related to your reinstatement request.
- If there's no update, contact the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue directly by phone or email to inquire about the status of your request.
- If you're unable to get a response or resolution in a timely manner, submitting a new PA-100 form to establish a fresh account is a viable option. This ensures you're in compliance and able to manage payroll tax obligations without further delay.
- Regardless of the account's status, ensure you're withholding and tracking your employees' state taxes to avoid any compliance gaps during this period.
Let me know how the follow-up with the Department of Revenue goes or if you'd like assistance completing the PA-100 form, Bala. I'm here to help ensure your payroll setup is back on track smoothly.
