We want to use the IRS 1099 system to submit the 1099 information for our vendors. How can we extract a file from Quickbooks to download to the IRS for this purpose?

Thanks for reaching out to us, @phyl61. I'm here to share insight about extracting a 1099 file from QuickBooks Online (QBO) so you can e-file through the IRS free system.
In QBO, you're only allowed to e-file or print and mail your 1099 forms. Currently, the option to download them within the program is unavailable. You'll need to create one manually and submit it through the IRS free service.
However, I can help you run reports in QBO to assist you in creating your 1099s. First, generate and customize the Vendor Contact List to show the list of vendors included. Here's how:
- Go to Reports and search for Vendor Contact List.
- Select Customize.
- In the Rows/Columns section, click Change Columns.
- Select Track 1099, then Run Report.
For more details on which reports to run, please see this article: Understand which contractors need 1099s.
