Does Intuit know QBO is painfully slow, clunky and affecting business' bottom line?

Is Intuit aware of how impractical QuickBooks Online has become?

Forms load slowly, pages frequently lag or crash, and closing the books now takes significantly longer. This inefficiency wastes time and money, as more resources are needed to update the books. What steps is Intuit taking to address these issues and will there be any major change in the product? Is QBO Advance faster?

I'm reaching a point where some of my clients may need to switch back to QuickBooks Desktop or explore alternative solutions. However, I've also heard that Intuit plans to discontinue the desktop version shortly. Can you confirm this?

We recognize that accessing your accounts should be a pleasant experience, and we aim to enhance that for you as well, Alshey. Below are several common factors that may affect its speed, along with improvement tips.

Intuit aims for the most frequently used pages in QuickBooks to load within 10 seconds, and we consistently monitor our systems to ensure we achieve this goal. While QuickBooks operates as a web-based service, it depends on your device’s processing power, available memory (RAM), and your Internet connection's bandwidth to function correctly.

You can check your system meets the basic requirements to help narrow down the reason for slow performance. For more details, see this article: Why is my QuickBooks Online slow?

In the meantime, I recommend accessing your account using a private window. This way, we can determine whether this is a browser cache-related issue.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + N

If it works, clear the browser's cache. Doing so deletes all the data from your browser and optimizes its performance. You may also use other supported browsers as an alternative.

Regarding the discontinuation, QuickBooks Desktop 2022 software will no longer be available after May 31, 2025. It applies to all 2022 versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, QuickBooks Desktop Premier, QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions v22.

For further information about the discontinuation policy and the products that Intuit has no longer sell, please refer to these articles:

QB Enhanced Desktop Payroll is NOT better than the online version. It is so costly - the cost will be increased by 100% in 2025 (almost $3K per year). Not worth it for accountants with only a few clients (10 or less). It is time to switch.

QB Enhanced Desktop Payroll had a major update this past weekend and it messed up the system for me (I have QB 2024 and subscribed to Enhanced Desktop Payroll). I had to call QB 3 times to talk to 3 different technicians to fix it. The first technician did not do it right and the 2nd one was fixing it and then cut me off and the 3rd one finally was able to fix it. The entire process took about 3 hours+.

There are many choices in the payroll market.

Thank you for reading this post. Happy Holidays!

@JoesemM  "Intuit aims for the most frequently used pages in QuickBooks to load within 10 seconds,---"

You really could have stopped right there.

If a 10 second loading time is QBO's gold standard, it won't matter if you hijacked NASA's supercomputers; it'll still just be a piece of dung hooked up to a supercomputer.

Literal teenagers write better software than this.

@105274462  It's a sad thing.

Intuit apparently realized that they can't force their Desktop clients to switch to their precious QBO baby just by price gouging them, so they have decided to achieve parity with QBO by crippling Desktop too.

I am very disappointed. For several days, I have been using different PCs to see if it is a PC speed problem. I have concluded that something is very wrong with QB and that I should try another provider. The loading speed is very slow. Connecting to your servers seems to take a very long time. I have been on this task of trying to get online for about an hour, and I still can't access my accounts.

"Intuit aims for the most frequently used pages in QuickBooks to load within 10 seconds..."

Ten seconds? That is way too slow for a modern application. Simple text drop-down lists (eg. Customers or Vendors) cannot even keep up with an average typist like me. Those could easily be moved locally for faster response. I have worked with a number of cloud-based applications, including far more complex ERP packages, that do not have the response issues of QBO.

QBO has become soooo slow loading and just moving from one field to another that it's ridiculously painful. DO SOMETHING TO FIX THIS. All the stupid, unnecessary "enhancements" has made this platform UNBEARABLE TO WORK WITH.

Thanks for getting involved with this thread, ljbrower.

The most-used pages in QuickBooks should typically load in 10 seconds. While the platform is a web-based service, it also relies on your computer or device's processing power, the amount of available memory (RAM), and bandwidth of your internet connection to perform as intended. A shortfall in any area can reduce performance.

Initially, I'd recommend making sure you meet each of the platform's system requirements. Intuit also recommends using Google Chrome to get the best experience possible. If you're already using Chrome, ensure you're using the browser's latest release by going to your Chrome menu, Help, then About Google Chrome.

Also be sure to confirm the operating system you're using is up-to-date. You can additionally verify your internet speed (bandwidth) isn't limiting the experience by running a Google Speed Test.

For detailed information on troubleshooting, I'd recommend reviewing our Why is my QuickBooks Online slow? article.

If QuickBooks is still loading slow for you after troubleshooting, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Have a great Thursday!

It's a brand new (1 month old) business computer. QBO is turning into a POS because they keep adding so much junk it doesn't work well anymore. Most of the junk does not get used and it slows down the platform.

I used QBO when it first came out and dropped it because it was so bad. Then they revamped it and I started using it again in 2008 when the new platform came out. Since then, they have added junk that NEVER has made it better, just slower.

@ZackE   The fact that you would make it out to be OUR problem, or the computer or whatever, is pathetic.  How many, and how often do the QB customers need to complain and point out that we are all running higher than necessary, before QB does something to actually FIX the problem?  It's ridiculous that the QB customers are made to feel small, talked down to, and belittled, all because your engineers won't create something useful  and well-running.

WE AREN'T THE PROBLEM.  QB and it's engineers are.

Yes, I agree with Just_me. I have used Quickbooks Desktop & Online since 1996. It gets worse and worse. But costs more and more. FOR WHAT??? It also says you don't recommend Private Mode but it's the only way to get it to actually move from field to field. I NEVER recommend it anymore.
