I have several purchase orders with the same client, which i need to reference on an invoice. Is there a field so I can track how much has been billed against each?

Thanks for your time today, @alex41,
I can share some information on how to track how much you bill your customers in QuickBooks Online.
When you bill a customer, you can assign a memo on the Message on invoice section of the invoice. This way, when you run a customer report, you can track which transactions are billable. Check out this snapshot:
Once you assign the memo, you can customise a Sales by Customer Detail report to view billable sales transactions. Here's how:
- Go to the Reports menu.
- Select Sales by Customer Detail.
- Click the Customise button.
- In the Rows/Columns section, click the Change columns link.
- Mark the Client/Supplier Message box.
- Hit Run report.
Here's how the report looks like:
That should do it. Please let me know if you have other questions. I'll be around to help whenever you need a hand. Have a nice day!

Thank you that's very useful.
I think I am going to try setting up a custom field specifically for purchase order numbers and then I should be able to run a report on that field, the problem with using the notes section Is that I already use it for descriptions as well as the PO numbers. I tried to search the PO numbers that are already within this field, however Quickbooks does not seem to be able to recognise them as part of that field....
I'll see what work around I can come up with.
Thanks again.

Huzzah that worked a treat. I now have a discrete field that is labelled as Purchase order reference that I can search against.

Hello Alex41
You could certainly set up a custom field and then in the sales by customer detail report mentioned above you can use the customise in the top right and add columns under rows and columns to add in the column for the custom field.
Then if you want to narrow the report down to ones with a specific reference in that custom field you have the option to use the filter option (still within the customise section) by ticking the box to the left of that column in the filter section and then typing in the reference(s) and running report.
Thanks
Emma
