You're on the right track in using the quick search for some companies. Since this doesn't work for your other companies, it looks like the desktop app has too much-stored cache. I'd suggest clearing its cache to restore the application to its default settings. I'll guide you how.
The screenshot below shows you the first two steps.
If the issue persists, you'll have to uninstall and reinstall the app. This fixes the most common issues when using it, such as being unable to search transactions quickly.
To uninstall the app:
Once done, you'll have to re-install the app. For detailed steps, see the How do I install the app? section through this article: QuickBooks App for Windows and Mac.
