I’m here to help ensure you can successfully create an Accountant’s copy in QuickBooks Desktop.


There are different errors and unexpected results which may occur when creating or working on an Accountant’s copy. Which specific one are you seeing upon doing the process?


The troubleshooting you need to do depends on the type of error you’re getting. However, we have one general solution which can resolve most unexpected results in the program.


First off, make sure to update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. Here’s how:

 

  1. Go to the Help menu, select Update QuickBooks.
  2. On the Update QuickBooks window, choose the Update Now tab (you can ignore the table because you don't need to change anything).
  3. (Optional) Put a check mark in the box Reset Update box to erase all previous update downloads.
  4. Click Get Updates.
  5. Then, restart QuickBooks.
  6. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

Once done, verify that the QBDataServiceUser28 (QBDT 2018, QBDataServiceUser27 for QBDT 2017) user has full access to file location. Check out these steps:

  1. Open the Windows Explorer.
  2. Right click the folder where the company file is saved and choose Properties.
  3. Look for QBDataServiceUser28 (for QuickBooks 2018, QBDataServiceUser27 for QuickBooks 2017) and make sure that the Full Control box is checked.
  4. Click OK to close the Properties window.
