QuickBooks won’t connect to my bank account

We recognize the urgency of having your bank account connected to your online banking. Let me help you rectify your banking connection and get transactions from them to your QuickBooks Online (QBO), thedogshedlewes.

Before anything else, may we know what's the name of the financial institution you're trying to connect? This helps us check any known issues or if we need to address any specific concerns related to your financial institution.

In the meantime, we can sign in to your bank's website to check if there are issues with your financial institution. This helps us verify if there are notifications from their end that need attention causing the banking connection issues in the program. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu on the left panel.
  2. Click Link account. Note: You won’t add an account, you need the listed URL.
  3. Search for your bank and select it. Then copy the URL listed for your bank.
  4. Sign in to your bank or credit card's website using the copied URL.
  5. Look for any display issues as you navigate the website. Also, check your bank’s website for any announcements about new security requirements.

If you can sign in, it's a good signal that there isn't a major issue. Once done, review the following details below to check any messages. Here's how:

  1. Check your account for messages, notifications, or alerts.
  2. Look for any display issues as you navigate the website. These can block QuickBooks from connecting with your bank.
  3. Check your bank’s website for any announcements about new security requirements.

Then, try connecting your bank account again to the program. If you're unable to find your bank in the search results, this article will guide you through the troubleshooting steps: Find your bank or credit card account when you connect to online banking in QuickBooks Online.

If the issue persists, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to see if the issue is within your browser. We can open a private or incognito window in the browser to open QBO with a clean slate and load fresh data. Here's how:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. The collection of data over time can create corruption, however, removing this should fix the issue. Also, you can utilize another supported browser or device if this doesn't work. This happens when the current browser you're using has a temporary issue with the program. To learn more about resolving browser issues, you can check out this article: Troubleshooting browser problems.

In case you need steps on how you can review your downloaded or imported data by matching or adding them to avoid duplicate ones, you can read this article: Categorise online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.
