Why can't I add my accountant?

Hi chrisnewell-lits,   

 

Did you receive an error message when you tried inviting an accountant? Any QuickBooks Online subscription allows you to invite different users. It can be that being unable to add an accountant is caused by a browser-related issue.   

 

You can try inviting an accountant using a private (incognito) browser. Then, you can use these steps on how to add an accountant user:   

 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account. 
  2. Click the Gear icon then Manage users.
  3. Select Accounting firms.
  4. Click Invite.
  5. Enter the accountant's name and email address, then select Save.

Your accountant will receive an email invitation where it asks them to sign in to your account. From there, they will create a user ID if it's their first time. After accepting the invitation, their status changes to Active in the Manage Users page.   

 

If you're able to successfully do these steps, you can go back to the main browser and clear the cache. Any supported browser can also help you isolate these kinds of issues.

following on the thread, i have the same issue. i can not add my accountant

 

followed your steps, but it looks that the "accounting firms" button or space does not appear in the screen so i can not follow the guideline....

 

i have the simple start version with one user and i am trying to add my accountant but i cant.

Allow me to join this thread and share some information about adding an accountant, jneumann1967.

 

For now, the Accounting Firms option is only available to selected QuickBooks Online (QBO) International versions. You'll want to add your accountant as Company Administrator to give access to every part of the QuickBooks account. They can still do everything that the primary admin can do except editing or removing the primary admin's access. To invite your accountant, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Gear ⚙ icon, then select Manage users
  2. Select Add user.
  3. Select the user type you want to create.  More options will appear on the screen depending on the user type you select.
  4. Enter your new user’s name and email address, then click Save.

Why can't I add my accountant?

Hi, I have been reviewing the posts as I have just joined with QBO Global. Does this mean that unlike the QBOA version an Accountant can only be added as a User? Would this explain why I can only see my accounts/books in QBO global and there's no section for "your practice". I am also looking for the section to send requests to my client and the option does not seem to exist in QBO Global, is this so?

Yes, you're right that an accountant is only added as a user, specifically Company Administrator. That's why there's no "Your Practice" section, and you only see your company's books. You can check out the references that my colleagues shared for your additional reference.

Why can't I add my accountant?

Did anyone get a solution to this?  This is absurd, why can't I add an accountant?  The tab is totally missing in Essentials version.  Is there a way around this?

As mentioned by my colleague @MariaSoledadG, the Accounting Firms tab where you can add an accountant is only available to selected QuickBooks Online (QBO) International versions. As a way around this, you may consider adding your accountant as the company administrator.


A company admin has access to every part of your QBO account. They can manage all company files, except editing or removing the primary admin's access. I’m glad to show you the steps:

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top right, then click Manage users.
  2. Select Add user.
  3. Choose Company admin as user type. If you see a box that says, “This user is my accountant,” you can put a checkmark.
  4. Press Next after.
  5. Enter your accountant’s name and email address, then select Save.


They’ll get an email that contains your business’s name and a message. Let them select the “Let’s go!” link and sign in.


I recognize how convenient it is to have a direct option to add an accountant. You can submit feedback to our Product Development team so they can help improve your experience.


On the other hand, if you’ve seen the said tab in your Essentials version before, you can perform some troubleshooting steps to rectify this.


First, access your QBO account in an incognito or private window to determine if this is related to browser issues. Here are the shortcuts keys for quick navigation:

 

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P


Once logged in, try to add an accountant. If you can do it, get back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Doing this helps the program to run better. You can also use other supported browsers as an alternative.
