You can import Excel or CSV file data to your QuickBooks...

You can import Excel or CSV file data to your QuickBooks Desktop Pro, sukitw.

Before you can start to import your file, you'll need to install the QuickBooks Import Excel and CSV toolkit. Here's how:

  1. Open the file download window for the toolkit.

  3. Double-click QuickBooks_Import_Excel_and_CSV.exe on your Windows desktop to open the WinZip Self-Extractor window.
  4. Select Browse.
  5. Choose the folder where you want to install the toolkit, then OK.
  6. Select Unzip to extract the contents, and then click Close to close the WinZip Self-Extractor window.
  7. Open the QuickBooks Import Excel and CSV folder from the location you selected in step 4.

hi @Sukitw ,

Another option, you may utilize the trial period of the 3rd party tools to import your transaction.

Re: You can import Excel or CSV file data to your QuickBooks...

Do you happen to know if there is a MAC toolkit?

QuickBooks Team

Re: You can import Excel or CSV file data to your QuickBooks...

Hi Tiffiny Taylor Krugh,

At this time, the Mac toolkit is still unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. As a workaround, you can go to Utilities and select the .IIF option to import the file. Let me guide you how.

  1. Click File on the upper-part.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Choose .IIF files.

Here's an article for more information: Export To QuickBooks For Windows Or Mac (IIF).

Please let me know if you need anything else. I'll be right here to help.

Re: How to upload excel data file or csv file into QuickBooks Pro ?

Hello there, @curtpacpa52.

You can manually enter the payroll hours using the weekly timesheet since the option to import payroll hours is not available. Let me show you how.

In your QBDT account:

  1. Go to the Employees menu, then select Enter Time.
  2. Choose Use Weekly Timesheet.
  3. Select the name of the employee from the Name drop-down arrow.
  4. Fill in the needed information.
  5. Once done, click Save & Close.

I've got you this article for more details: Create and Print Timesheets.

Also, I'm adding this helpful article that can help guide you in case you want to create paychecks based on timesheet hours: Create Paychecks Based on Timesheet Hours

Should you need further assistant, feel free to leave a comment below. I'll be around to help.

@curtpacpa52 ,

Utilize the trial period of 3rd party data importing tool as I have mentioned earlier. You can import Time Tracking data into QuickBooks Desktop or Time Activities data into QuickBooks Online.

Can these same steps be used for the same purpose to import an excel spreadsheet for payroll in QuickBooks Online?

Re: You can import Excel or CSV file data to your QuickBooks...

Hi there, CDBortle.

We're only import Bank, Customers, Vendors, Chart of Accounts and Product and Services data. You'll want to look into our third-party apps to bring your payroll transactions into QBO while the option is unavailable.

You can check out our available app through our Apps Center. Search for a keyword like import payroll. Select the app to review how it works with QuickBooks and how to avail it.

Let me know if you need more help with managing your data.

Re: You can import Excel or CSV file data to your QuickBooks...

I don' t think this is a valid solution for non list entries such as Bank and Credit card transactions.

Re: You can import Excel or CSV file data to your QuickBooks...

I understand that you want to import non bank/credit card transactions, dwkrueger.

We also want QuickBooks works to all businesses. The ability to import non bank transactions will be a great feature. I know our engineers would be glad if I'll send feedback about this.

In the meantime, I suggest using a third-party software who has this feature. You can visit our QuickBooks Apps Store as suggested by my colleague.

Please reply again if you have other concerns. I'm always available to help you.

Re: You can import Excel or CSV file data to your QuickBooks...

Hi there... I am trying to get data from my app into my customers' QB Desktop instances.  (1) Can you point me to any documentation of how to format an Excel file to import transactions into QuickBooks Desktop -- not an accountant's license, but a business owner's license?  All of the documentation I've seen online says that IIF is deprecated, and then they point to the home page of the SDK, which doesn't really help answer the question.  (2) Is there any way to send data into a Desktop instance thorugh APIs, or is the deprecated IIF format the only way? (3) Where is there documentation of how to format transactions in IIF?  Thanks!

This does not answer the question.  This is just an ad for someone selling this software.

I was answering your second question. If you prefer to develop your own migration tool, you should go to the Developer forum.

I meant is there any documentation about using a QuickBooks API.  I know there are plenty of 3rd-parties selling software.  Thank you, anyway...
