Hi

I am trying to migrate my company, for which the home currency is Rwanda Francs. in QB Destop, this currency symbol is FRS. In QB Online, it is RWF. this is blocking me from completing the migration. has anyone encountered this and knows a work-around?

MIGRATING FROM DESKTOP PRO 2020 TO QBO

I’ve got the information you need about the migration, @PatinAfrica.

If you’re trying to migrate from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) US to QuickBooks Online (QBO) International version, you’ll need a third-party app (migrator or conversion tool) to completely move your data.

On the other hand, if you’re moving from QBDT UK, please know that we’ve temporarily paused the migrations from June 16 until August 1, 2022. We’re working on a new service to help make your transfer as smooth as possible.

In the meantime, you can use the Open balance method to manually transfer your Desktop data to QBO. Here’s an illuminating guide that provides information about the service discontinuation: QuickBooks Desktop discontinuation support hub.

Also, when you’re moving to QBO US, transactions with 3 different currency types won't copy. Check out these resources to learn more about process and features that moves and doesn’t:

And I don't even know which QBO version I should be migrating to....Global? UK? no idea. Thank you for responding to my questions....any ideas you might have are very welcome.

@PatinAfrica

You can only migrate your data to QBO UK version. If your company is located in Rwanda, you should pick QBO Global version for Rwanda, unless you have a specific reason to use UK version. However, why do you need migrating data to QBO? You can still use your one time license for QBD UK version if required.

MIGRATING FROM DESKTOP PRO 2020 TO QBO

Hi there and many thanks for your response.

I am migrating from QB Desktop UK version. I don't even know which version of QBO i'm meant to be migrating to....UK or Global? Also, will the new service assisting migration from QBDT (UK) to QBO address the fact that the same currency (Rwanda Franc is FRS/RWF and Kenya Shilling is KES/KSH) has different symbols in the different apps?

Should I wait for the fix to arrive on 01 August, or migrate now using the Open Balance method? I can only migrate once and want to ensure the process is seamless and efficient.

What kind of fix do you mean? Did you receive an announcement about it?

Support for QBDT is being discontinued in 2023....which is why we are migrating to QBO.

If your company is not located in the UK and does not need to comply with MTD regulations, you can still use a one-time license for QBD 2020 UK version without support after January 2023.

But if you prefer migrating data to QB Online Global version for Rwanda, you may have 2 ways to do so

1. Utilize a migration tool. i.e TPExporter for Desktop and TPImporter for Online.

2. Purchase a 3rd party conversion service.

MIGRATING FROM DESKTOP PRO 2020 TO QBO

Hello @PatinAfrica,

I'm glad to see you keeping in touch with the Community. Let me chime in and provide additional information to your questions about migrating data from QuickBooks Desktop.

Users using the UK version can only migrate to the same region in QBO (UK). We handle the company you create in the system, depending on the country.

We follow standard procedures and rules to ensure you comply with the requirements. Your default home currency will depend on the country of your QuickBooks. Check out this link to view the list of supported regions: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/choose-country/.

Also, you're right. We've temporarily hit the pause button on all QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online migrations for 4 to 5 weeks, starting on June 16 and ending on August 1, 2022.

As of now, there's no update yet about the complete features of the upcoming service. If you're not in a rush, I recommend waiting for the new migration process.

It will allow you to move larger files with no size limitations. For updates and changes about the migration, keep an eye on this article: Why can’t I move my data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online?.

There are preparations for the conversion of the balances. I've attached an article you can use if you've decided to perform the open balance method in QuickBooks: Enter customer opening balances in QuickBooks Online.

I'm always available to help if you have additional questions or concerns about migrating data. Take care.
