Import QB desktop data to QB online. The problem is: I have an old version of QB desktop that don't has the option to transfer data to online and i can't update

Greetings, @wbisoen-hotmail-.

Converting QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) data to QuickBooks Online (QBO) is only available for QuickBooks US, UK and Canada versions. Ensure you have any of these versions to achieve this.

Before doing so, I recommend checking this article to learn more about what data will be converted to QBO: Import Data Conversion to QuickBooks Online - Frequently Asked Questions.

Nonetheless, to convert your data, I recommend creating a backup copy of your old version of QBDT and convert it to the latest version. That way, you can import your file to QBO. Let me guide you how:

  1. Download and install a trial version of the latest QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. On the software, go to File menu.
  3. Select Open or Restore Company.
  4. Click Restore a backup copy.
  5. Find and open the backup copy of your data.
  6. Select Open.
  7. Click Save.

Once done, go to the File menu and select Copy Company File for QuickBooks Online under Utilities. For more details about the process, you can refer to this article: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Let me also share this link for reference on how to handle the situation in case you run into some errors when converting your company data.

Feel free to reach out to me anytime you have other concerns or questions about importing your data to QBO. I’d be glad to assists you.

Just to clarify, which QB Desktop country version do you have? Where is your company located?

So I have a Quickbooks 2020 Mac version desktop but my accountant has Quickbooks online. Can I save it in a format that he can see using Online Quickbooks?

From what I read here I can convert it, is that right?

@Gds37

QBD and QBO are living in 2 different realms. You may have 3 options:

1. Ask your accountant to purchase a one time license of QBD 2021 US Accountant version. You may send the accountant file of your data to her/him.

2. Migrate your data to QBO US version and ask your accountant to open a QBO US Accountant version and access your file as the accountant.

3. Utilize a remote desktop app
