I have an invoice that has split requirements. 75% of the invoice should be charged to Owners Drawings and the other 25% to the Business with GST

Let us help you record your utility invoice split between the Owner's Drawings and your business account in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Brian. We'll guide you through the process.

If you want to charge the Owner’s Drawing account, please note that it's classified as an equity account in the program. Equity accounts represent the owner’s investment in the business or withdrawals and differ from expense or bank accounts in that you cannot charge bills or payments directly to them.

However, we can still accurately allocate the amounts by creating a bill transaction for the invoice you received. Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the +New button.
  2. Click Bill.
  3. In the Category section, split the bill by assigning 75% of the total to your Owner’s Drawings account (equity) and the remaining 25% to your business expense account with GST applied.

  4. Once done, click Save.
