I thought Quickbooks would have an option to take card payments on invoices ie redirect from email or an option to take customers card over phone

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. In QuickBooks, we can have customers pay online. However, this isn't an option in the QuickBooks Online International region at this time. As a workaround, you may consider looking for a third-party app.

Where is your company located? QB Payments are only for US and CA companies. You may need a 3rd party solution to accept credit card payments and integrate it with your QBO account.
