I can walk you through the steps to help you handle Kerala Flood Cess in QuickBooks. I suggest reaching out to an accountant to seek advice on what account to use in keeping track of these taxes based on your business preference.  

 

To start, let's create a custom tax agency to track cess:   

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. From the left menu, click Taxes.
  3. At the upper-right, click Add tax.
  4. Then, select Custom tax.
  5. In Tax name, enter Kerala Flood Cess. (Please note that this cannot be changed later).
  6. Enter a description for the tax.
  7. The Tax name is pulled into the Tax agency name. 
  8. Choose the Start of the current tax period as August. 
  9. Select Filing frequency and set it to Monthly.
  10. Choose the Reporting method as Accrual.
  11. Check the option that reads This is Kerala Flood Cess and the This tax is collected on sales box.
  12. In Sales rate, enter 1 and leave This tax is collected on purchases. Click Save.

You can go to your Chart of Accounts to the added accounts automatically generated by the system.
