Raising a PO, I get "Something's wrong, you must select an account for this transaction" Never had this before. What's going on?

Glad to see you gain here in the Community, @contact30.

You've got me here to help you get past the error that you received when creating a purchase order in QuickBooks Online.

When creating a purchase order in QuickBooks Online, you'll need to make sure that you select Category details or an Item details and enter all the data needed on the transaction. This way, the system will be able to track your purchases and let you save the entry.

However, if you've selected any of the said details already and the problem continues, I recommend accessing your account on a private window. At times, being unable to save a PO can be caused by the corrupted data files on your web-browser.

If you can now save it successfully, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. It eliminates unnecessary data and refreshes your files.

Hello there, @2023sophy.

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps so you can prepare or create a purchase order in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Firstly, you'll want to ensure you select an account under the Category details or an item before saving it so you won't get an error.

If you get the same result, let's log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser. It's possible that the browser you're using had a data issue, thus causing QuickBooks to act weirdly. To do so, press this shortcut key on your keyboard:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

Once logged in, go back and create a purchase order again to double-check. If this works, you need to clear the browser's cache so the system can start fresh. If you get the same result while using a private browser, I suggest switching to a different one.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. This way, they can further check on this matter and provide in-depth troubleshooting steps to get this resolved.
