QuickBooks Online operates entirely in the cloud, meaning your company data is securely stored online rather than in a traditional, downloadable file format as is the case with QuickBooks Desktop.
While you cannot download a complete company file, QBO allows you to export specific data sets, such as reports, lists, and transactions, in formats like Excel or CSV for offline use or backup purposes.
Here's how:
- Go to the Gear icon and select Export data under Tools.
- Choose the date range from the Pre-selected date ranges in the dropdown arrow.
- Tick the green button for the data you want to export under Reports or Lists.
- Hit Export to Excel.
