How can I transfer quickbooks desktop company to online when I mistakenly set up a new company online when I set up subscription before transferring the desktop company?

When I transferred my desktop company to online it would not associate it to the paid subscription but created a new temporary free subscription that I will have to pay to continue.  I don't want to pay for 2 subscriptions.  If I delete the new company that does not have my data will my one remaining company (the one transferred from desktop quickbooks) that has my data automatically be associated with my subscription or do I need to do something else?

Thanks for posting in the Community, president.

It's my pleasure to assist you with your concern about transferring your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) file to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To successfully import your QBDT company file, please make sure to select the correct QBO account where to transfer the data.

 If you want to cancel the company that has no data from QBDT and continue to subscribe to the new company, yes, it will be associated with the subscription.

Additionally, if you'll be migrating from the QBDT US version to QBO International, it's possible that it created a new QBO subscription with the same region as the QBDT. If that's the case and you still want to continue with the paid subscription without the data, you'll want to manually export the info from QBDT and import it to QBO.

You can read through this article for guidance: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online. Although this is for the US, but the process is still applicable to the Global region.

Please visit this link for future reference in managing data in QBO: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

Keep me posted if you have clarification or additional QuickBooks concerns. I'll be around to help you.

@Anonymous

Where is your company located?

Which QB Desktop year version and country version do you have?

The company is a school in Togo, West Africa.  But the school has been using a US version of QB 2019.  The ladies doing entry are bilingual but would be more comfortable being able to use QB in French so I subscribed to the Global version.  Perhaps that is creating the problem?

You need to purchase a 3rd party service to convert data from QB Desktop US version to QB Online Global version. I would recommend to keep using your QB Desktop to access your historical data and start from scratch in QB Online to lower your conversion costs. You can use a newer trial version to access your historical data for good if required.
