Report Size

I've always hated how reports are shown in QBO. The actual report window is so tiny compared to the massive border. It's one of the worst features, compared to the desktop version. But recently, I noticed it somehow getting worse. When you get down to less than a screenful of transactions, the report window actually "shrinks to fit", and ensures that there's always at least 1 transaction that's cut off. You can't even see all the transactions in a small report all at once. Here's a pic of a report that has only 2 transactions. I shouldn't have to scroll to see 2 transactions. There needs to be a way to adjust how big the report window is BY DEFAULT. My screen resolution is a MacBook 2560 x 1600Screen Shot 2022-03-01 at 2.48.59 PM.png

(There should also be a way to set the default columns in a report (like debits/credits instead of an awkward singular "Amount" column). Every single report I open begins with me unchecking certain columns, because even the default report is too many columns wide for the screen.)

Edit: Follow up, because here's what a report with only transaction looks like.Screen Shot 2022-03-01 at 3.02.50 PM.png

I appreciate you for sharing the details of your concern with us and for attaching some screenshots, @Alexk123A. I'd like to share some insights on how you can fix the issue with the reports' size in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In QBO, you can change the Display density when running a report. Follow these steps to proceed:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select the report to open it.
  3. Click the small Gear icon.
  4. Put a checkmark in the box beside Compact.

Also, you can zoom it out to make the page smaller. Press the Ctrl key on your keyboard and the minus (-) repeatedly. Also, let's make sure to maximize the browser so we can view the full QuickBooks Online page. You can refer to this article for more details.

For future reference, read through this article: Customise reports in QuickBooks Online. It helps you learn how to use filters to personalize and show what you want to see in your report. Then memorise the report to save the customisation.

Tap the Reply button if you have other questions about managing your reports in QBO. I'll be sure to get back to you. Have a great day ahead!

I feel like you aren't taking this seriously, and didn't troubleshoot on your end at all. Here's where I'm at now:

The reports are Compact by default. Barely does anything.

Of course my window is maximized. And the report should fit at 100%, without needing to zoom out to make the text so tiny you can barely read it. HOWEVER, I tried zooming out just to see what would happen: Screen Shot 2022-03-08 at 11.23.33 AM.pngIt actually made it MORE obscured. For the record, there's a single transaction in this report, and I can't even scroll to see it.

FURTHERMORE, I just did a bank rec, and now the bank rec screen is either glitched or something, but the bank rec screen now only shows transactions at the bottom half of the screen. There's a glitch where it thinks I'm also on the Dashboard. Check it out: Screen Shot 2022-03-08 at 11.19.17 AM.png

The screen should not look like this. You know that. Do not copy/paste a stock answer, or tell me to clear my cache or something. I've done all that.

Thanks for sharing a screenshot of the pages that you're having issues with, Alexk123A.

I tied to run the same report in my QBO account, and transactions are showing fine and not compacted. I also tried it with just one transaction, and I can see it immediately without zooming out or using the scroll-bar.

Similarly, I opened the Reconciliation window and it's also showing fine. I can see all the buttons and transactions aren't only shown at the bottom-half of the screen.

Have you tried using a different browser or switch to an incognito/private browsing session? Issues within your browser can sometimes cause QBO to not function properly. Use these keyboard shortcuts to switch to incognito mode, depending on the browser that you're using:

  • Ctrl Shift N  for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl Shift P for Firefox
  • Control Option +if you're using Safari
  • Ctrl Shift P for Microsoft Edge

Then, go back to your account and run a report to check if they're showing fine. If everything looks fine, follow the steps in this article to delete your browsing history: Clear Cache And Cookies To Fix Issues When Using QuickBooks Online

With regards to adding default columns, I would recommend sending a feature request about this. Our product engineers are always collecting feedback and product suggestions on how they can improve the product. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
  2. Type in your feedback and suggestions about the advertisements in QBO.
  3. Click Next to submit them.

Per your instructions, I tried it in both Chrome and Safari, and in Incognito mode. They all look identical, still can't see the transaction, and the rec page is still glitchy. Please see above to see what computer I'm using and the resolution.

It wasn't like this a few weeks ago, and I haven't updated Chrome or my Mac or anything since then. Nothing that I know of has changed on my end.

Well, it's almost a year later, and no solutions. Take a look at this current screenshot. Look at this, and tell me it's normal for a report which has only 5 entries, to be squeezed into a TINY box on a fraction of the page. Also note that the 5th line is even cutoff. QBO can't even render a report of 6 lines without cutting one off.

Please read the previous conversations so we can skip the part where you tell me to maximize my screen or something.Screen Shot 2023-02-13 at 2.11.31 PM.png

Hi Alexk123A,

Having a comprehensive display on reports helps to make it easy to see the movement of funds in the business, so I understand why you're very particular about it.

I can see that you've been through some steps with my colleagues, so I recommend contacting our QBO Support team so they can look into this further with more tools.

  1. Click Help and choose Search.
  2. Click Contact Us at the bottom.
  3. Type in your concern.
  4. Choose Start a chat.

You can also do some customisations to filter the data you only need.

Let me know if you have other questions about the reports.
