I created Vat(GST) tax rate, but I did not mark it as collected on expenses/purchases. Later I wanted to track that tax on purchases/expenses but I could not edit . I'm using QB online plus. Please help.

Let's do browser troubleshooting, ahmedshiran.

Let's begin by accessing your account in a new incognito or private window of your browser. This way, we can check if this issue is related to your current browser or not. Let me guide you how:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

Once completed, you can log back into your account and check if you can edit the tax rate. If it's successful, you can clear your browser's cache to optimize it. Also, your browser can start from scratch and improve your QuickBooks Online browsing experience.

Please note that once a rate has been created, you cannot delete the rate. If you need to change that rate, deactivate the rate and then create a new one.

  1. In the Tax Centre, use the side arrows to find the tax you want to deactivate.
  2. Click on Edit tax in the top right corner.
  3. Click on Edit rate.
  4. Click the green toggle option.
  5. For custom rates - Under Action, click Edit and then click Make inactive.

Let me know if you have additional questions by leaving a reply. I'll be more than happy to answer them for you.

Thank you for the reply.

I have tried with different browsers. Still can't click the button. I want to record tax on expenses.

Thanks for getting back to us, @ahmedshiran.

We want to make sure you can edit the GST tax rate you created. Since the behavior continues after trying the suggestions above, I encourage reaching out to our Support Team team. This way, a representative can review the root cause of the error and can investigate this further.

Here's how:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Dashboard.
  2. Select Talk to a Human.

  3. Enter a short description of your concern and press Enter.
  4. Click I still need a human.
  5. Select Contact Us to connect with our live support.
  6. Choose Start a chat.

In the meantime, I'd suggest visiting our Community Help website that shares helpful articles to read on topics like account management, banking, reports, and more. Just select a subject from the Topics drop-down menu.

Thanks for coming to the Community, I look forward to hearing from you again.
