What’s Your Word? Chris Pan Asks a Simple Question that Helps Us Think Deep

One of our favorite moments of QuickBooks Connect 2017 in San Jose came near the very end of the three-day event. MC Lisa Ling brought to the stage Chris Pan, the founder of MyIntent.org. The story behind the company? After years leading marketing efforts for global companies, Chris had taken some time out and soon found himself pondering this big question: what does the world need more of?

The answer, Chris decided, was emotional and spiritual fitness. He wanted to help people be present, be grateful and be able to find the unique purpose within each of us. Chris stripped this complex, lofty goal into one basic, foundational question: what’s your word?

At QuickBooks Connect, Chris led the audience through some energizing stretching and breathing exercises, as well as a Congo-line massage (what better way to make a new friend!). He told us the story of MyIntent.org – and reminded us all of our immense power to bring about meaningful change every day, in our own unique way. Best moment of the day? When everyone at QB Connect was handed their own bracelet, appropriately stamped with the word together.

Here’s where you can watch the amazing video of Chris Pan at QB Connect – including leading us in 5,000-person massage! (Chris’ segment begins at 28:06.)

Before you go

Chris Pan says his word is impact. QB Community members, what is your one word? Please share in the comments below. We’re excited to find out what keeps you motivated, focused and on track.

Lastly, here are a couple shots of Chris in action!

Re: What’s Your Word? Chris Pan Asks a Simple Question that Helps Us Think Deep

I couldn't make it to QuickBooks Connect - I had been invited to Texas to talk about running an excellent small business based on customer service, but my word is and has been for the last couple of years: Mindchanger.

'cause that's what I do. I create visual content that is designed to change my client's customers' minds

Sooooo many nuggets of pure gold from Chris. Thank you, @WillowOlder, for resurfacing this inspiring talk from last week's QuickBooks Connect.

What Chris is advocating are, in my opinion, two of the most important things - starting the day with intent and movement.

As a fitness professional, I know that my clients will not achieve full health without physical and mental health. If a client comes to me on only three hours of sleep, well we will be focusing on breathing, stretching and basic mobility as opposed to high intensity interval training. Life is all about balance...physically and mentally!

My word is abundance - "Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into." - Wayne Dyer

Together. The QuickBooks team gave everyone at the event a My Intent bracelet with that word written on it. It really resonated with me. We are stronger... together. We are more joyful... together. We are more prosperous... together.

Grateful for being together here in this community.

Re: What’s Your Word? Chris Pan Asks a Simple Question that Helps Us Think Deep

This was probably my favorite speaker of the conference.  The exercises he took us through, encouraging us to connect with someone around us, and mostly inviting us to just be STILL for a moment after a wonderful, but very busy conference -- such a breath of fresh air.

My word did not hit me then.  Not even on the 6+ hour drive home.  Or in the few days that followed, where i was in rest up and catch up mode.

My word hit me yesterday, like a ton of bricks, driving back from my last client visit before the holiday break.  It had been so obvious.

It's amazing what you find when you stop, breathe, and listen to the 'nothing at all'.

thanks QBConnect!

@ShanaNiederman I think that's about the same here. There's only so many of us that work at our bakery and without Teamwork we couldn't do it. :)

I thought my word was patience. After more distilling I ended up at the word “ease,” as in trying to do things with ease whenever possible. I asked my Thanksgiving crew what their word was, and the answers ranged from relax and forward to gut (as in trust your gut) and keep moving. Love the complexity uncovered by this seemingly simple question!
