Once you connect your bank and credit card accounts, QuickBooks automatically downloads your recent transactions. Then it shows you if they match any records you’ve already entered in QuickBooks. And if it can’t find a match, QuickBooks will start a new record for you. All you have to do is approve the match or select Add to create a new record. Here’s how to get started. Step 1: Download your bank and credit card transactions QuickBooks automatically downloads the latest available transactions every night around 10 PM PT. For most banks, transactions are usually available for QuickBooks to download the day after they post to your bank's website. Some may take a little longer depending on your bank. You can also do a manual update to get the latest available transactions: Go to the Banking menu. Select&nbsp;Update. This updates all of your bank and credit card accounts. Learn what to do after you download bank and credit card transactions in QuickBooks Online. If you see a message about additional authentication, follow the onscreen instructions. Not all banks require this, but some do for added peace of mind. Here's what to do if you have&nbsp;trouble downloading your transactions. Step 2: Review your downloaded bank transactions Go to the Banking menu. Select the blue tile for the acc...

Learn how to combine multiple transactions into a single record to keep QuickBooks in sync with your bank deposits. When you deposit money at the bank, you often deposit money from multiple sources all at once. If you recorded each payment individually in QuickBooks, they won’t match your deposit. That’s because your bank usually records all the payments you deposited as a single record with one total. But don’t worry, QuickBooks has a special way for you to combine everything so your records match your bank deposit total. Put transactions you want to combine into your Undeposited Funds account. Then record a bank deposit to combine them. Here’s how to track bank deposits in QuickBooks. Or learn more about bank deposits in QuickBooks Online first. Step 1: Put transactions into the Undeposited Funds account If you haven’t already, put the invoice payments and sales receipts you want to combine into the Undeposited Funds account. This account holds transactions before you record a deposit. Step 2: Record a bank deposit in QuickBooks to combine payments Do you use QuickBooks Payments?&nbsp; If you do, QuickBooks takes care of everything for you. <description>
If you have several months or even years of transactions in QuickBooks Desktop that have not been reconciled with your financial statements, you can reconcile them without having to do so one month at a time. If your un-reconciled transactions and statements span multiple fiscal years, the recommended method to reconcile them is one year at a time. Using this method, all adjustments, service fees, and interest you enter during the reconciliation process will apply to the year in which those transactions occurred. However, you may wish to consult with your accountant or attorney regarding the best method for you to reconcile statements and transactions for multiple years. Reconcile one year at a time Before your start reconciling the account: Create a back up copy of company file. Select a financial statement to use for the ending balance. If all the periods you need to reconcile are in the current fiscal year, select the most recent statement from your financial institution. If you are reconciling prior years, select the financial statement for the last month in the oldest fiscal year you need to reconcile. Go to the Banking menu and select Reconcile. Select the Account drop-down then choose the account you want to reconcile . In the Statement Date field, choose the date from ...

<description>
When you open the Begin Reconciliation window then select an account to reconcile, the Beginning Balance is zero or incorrect. This may be due to one of the following reasons: No balance or an incorrect balance was entered when the account was set up. Previously cleared and reconciled transactions were voided, deleted, or modified. The file was converted from a different version of QuickBooks. Possible data damage. To correct a zero balance Recreate the opening balance If it is your first time reconciling the account, you can recreate the opening balance but this option is not available in the Begin Reconciliation window. However, you can create a journal entry then do a mini-reconciliation to correct it. Create a journal entry using the correct date and amount you want to see in the Begin Reconciliation window. Go to the Company menu, then select Make General Journal Entries. Change the date to the correct statement date of your beginning balance. On the first line, select the appropriate account from the Account drop-down. Enter the correct opening balance in the Debit column. On the second line, select Opening Balance Equity. Select Save. <description>
Banking Error 185 means your bank or financial institution (FI) requires more information after you enter your credentials. This may mean that your FI has additional security requirements, such as a security question or one-time passcode (OTP), for you to address. To resolve Error 185 Security questions: If your bank or FI asks you a security question, enter your answer. You may see this error again the next time you update if you have multiple security questions. As you enter your answers, QuickBooks remembers the security questions you have been asked and answers for you. One-time password (OTP): If your bank or FI asks for an OTP, get your OTP (on a device, through text, call, etc.), and enter it each time you see Error 185.

Learn how to fix mistakes on your bank or credit card statement. Occasionally, your bank or credit card company may make a mistake by processing a transaction for a different amount than the amount you wrote. In this article, we'll show you what to do when that happens. Here's what to do when you see errors on your bank or credit card statement. Make an adjustment transaction in the register (or account history) for the difference between what the statement says and what the transaction should be. Contact your bank or credit card company and report the error. When you receive your next bank or credit card statement, verify that it contains an adjustment for the error. Find and delete the adjustment transaction. Reconcile the new bank or credit card statement with the account.

<link>

<description>
If you've never reconciled your accounts, or if you haven’t reconciled on a monthly basis, you’ll need to do so at the end of the year to be sure that your financial reports are correct when&nbsp;preparing your taxes. The following best practices will help with year-end reconciliation: Begin with the oldest bank&nbsp;statement, and reconcile month-by-month&nbsp;up to the most recent statement. The further back you start, the more likely you are to uncover errors and discrepancies. If you've reconciled at some time in the past year, you need to start from that point and move forward,&nbsp;reconciling against each statement, one after the other, in order, up to the most recent statement. If you're missing any old statements, you can ask your bank to reissue any statements you need. You might not be able to see all your reconciled transactions on just one screen in Deposits or Checks and Payments,&nbsp;but you can select Select Next or Select Previous to scroll through them all. These tips will help you reconcile your year-end accounts. You can also check out detailed steps on how to&nbsp;reconcile your accounts in QuickBooks Online.
