Hello,

This is in connection with the various States requiring sales tax collection for those sellers who fall above their threshold.

Trying to get some idea on how to code customers who are out of state and are (1) resellers or tax exempt (2) end users or not tax exempt.

We currently sell B2B so majority of our customers will be tax exempt out of state sales however, what is the best way to differentiate these in a code on Quickbooks Enterprise so that at the end of the year, we can pull a report and see if we are liable to collect sales tax on the non exempt customers out of state for next year.

Quickbooks Enterprise 2018

A duplicate "sales tax payable" account was mistakenly created, and we can't inactivate it, and you limit the number of accounts we can have before charging more

A duplicate "sales tax payable" account type was created, but when we try to inactive it we receive the error "You can't change or delete this account because it's used to track sales tax amounts.".

The account register is empty, and we have tried to change the "account type" and "Detail Type," but received the same error as described above. Normally we would ignore this but we are close to reaching our chart of accounts limit, and it's not fair of Intuit to place a limit on charts and now allow us to inactivate certain account types....would not recommend quickbooks to anyone based on this until the glitch is fixed, hopefully ASAP but we know how slow QBO engineers are....

The reporting worksheet is not calculating correctly. It is not including sick hours. It is not reporting Pre-tax medical withheld or phone allowance as income. When I spoke with the agency they informed me that phone allowance was to be included as income and sick hours are to be reported with hours. I didn't ask about Pre-tax medical. Do you have a decicive answer for that?

New EFTPS password requirements -- requires 12-30 characters, QB2018 only allows up to 12

I am using QB2018 desktop, V28.0D R12 7-1-2019 with enhanced payroll. I have the latest updates for both QB & payroll. I updated my EFTPS password per the notice Intuit sent out a few days ago and chose a more than 12 character password (per the new requirements of 12-30 characters on the EFTPS website). My new pass word works great on the EFTPS website. However, when I went to pay the federal tax in QB (using the help screen info already shared here in the community), I discovered that the federal tax E-payment screen will only allow 8 to 12 characters. (Also note that the federal EFTPS site only allows one passwrod change every 10 days.)

I spent the time on the phone today with QB payroll service. There is no fix or solution as of today in QB, but they are now aware of the problem. (I was told that I was the first to report this.)

--The easy immediate solution if you get caught in this problem is to simply pay your federal taxes directly on the EFTPS website and "pay" the taxes in QB with a "ETF check" so QB has the info you have paid the due amount.

(Hope this helps someone.)

Once I pay sales tax to my state, and that payment appears on my list of Banking transactions, how to I decrease Sales Tax Payable by that amount?

For example, say my Sales Tax Payable balance is $5,000. Sales tax due for the most recent reporting period was $3,000, which I paid. The $3,000 debit is reflected on my Banking transaction list. How do I make Sales Tax Payable equal $2,000?

I am attempting to use QB for paying railroad employees. Railroad employees do not pay into FICA, but instead into a the Railroad Retirement system. The system has 2 Tier levels. Tier I is equivalent to the FICA tax rate and is paid by the employee and employer (7.65% ea). Tier II is currently 4.9% of wages paid by the employee, and 13.1% of wages paid by the employer.

I'm wondering if there is any way Quickbooks can handle such taxes, or at least find some sort of work around.
