Why this camping business chose Intuit Enterprise Suite over NetSuite

Camping looks a little different these days when you’re at any one of Four Points RV Resort's locations. The five-year-old business differentiates itself in the RV park industry by providing attractions including water parks, splash pads, floating obstacle courses on the lake, fishing, sport courts, and—making the wilderness less “wild” for the modern camper – Wi-Fi.

Matt Van Der Molen, a founding partner at Four Points, is a family man at heart. He wanted to ensure his RV parks could be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Van Der Molen wasn’t new to the camping and recreation space when he founded Four Points RV Resorts in 2019. After two decades of growing up in the industry, and years of consulting for other RV parks, one of his clients asked if he would buy their park. This led to a series of acquisitions across the United States.

Van Der Molen and his business partners have since scaled up to eight parks. Four Points RV Resorts now grosses upwards of $11 million annually.

Rapid growth comes with growing pains, though. Four Points RV Resorts had expanded to include multiple employees, locations, and entities. Up to three LLCs could be involved with a single property and the team needed a seamless way to manage the financials across them. Reporting had also become a headache.

Enter a new solution that has helped Four Points and Van Der Molen navigate those growing pains and others: Intuit Enterprise Suite.

"All the stresses and the data integrity and the training—all these elements weren’t a concern. It was fantastic."

- Matt Van Der Molen, CTO/CMO, Four Points RV Resorts

“What was working for one property was not really working for eight.”

Prior to using Intuit Enterprise Suite, Four Points outsourced its monthly reporting to a fractional CFO. Simply producing the reports cost $600 per month and sometimes required a multiple day turnaround. Plus, “We were in the process of doing a private equity raise,” Van Der Molen says. It required accessing a lot of data—fast. But, “We just weren’t able to access it on demand.”

Van Der Molen and his team had been long-time users of QuickBooks Online, but “What was working for one property was not really working for eight,” he says. The Four Points team was shopping around for another accounting solution.

When Van Der Molen’s account manager told him Intuit Enterprise Suite could relieve his multi-entity transaction and reporting headaches, he was skeptical. “I’ve done other software migrations, some with great success, some without,” he says.

Van Der Molen couldn’t believe it when his account manager said migration was as simple as flipping a switch. “No but, how long is it going to take?,” he recalls asking. “Give it to me real.” In the end, Van Der Molen was pleasantly surprised, “The next time I logged into the account, it was [that easy]. All the stresses and the data integrity and the training—all these elements weren’t a concern. It was fantastic.”

Intercompany journal entries sync with ease

What a difference Intuit Enterprise Suite made. Before switching, Van Der Molen's team would record and reconcile about 30 intercompany transactions across various QuickBooks Online accounts every month.

The company spoke with and demoed NetSuite for three months in 2023 primarily to use its consolidated reporting and intercompany journal entries. They eventually decided NetSuite was not worth the investment. With Intuit Enterprise Suite, consolidated multi-entity reports take Van Der Molen seconds to generate himself. The data is immediately accessible, and he eliminated the $600 monthly cost of the fractional CFO. Intercompany journal entries that used to take over 90 minutes for his team to book are done in 30 minutes. Managing roles and permissions in a central place is also creating efficiencies.

Intuit Enterprise Suite proves to be the ideal match

With the relationship-based support he gets from Intuit as an Intuit Enterprise Suite customer, Four Points has found a partner who understands the business' inner workings and hears their concerns. Van Der Molen explained that when they were shopping for software solutions, they were "going to go with the team that [makes us feel like] we have a voice, [and] knows what we're doing. We are looking for partners."

“We were wondering, ‘Are we supposed to take the jump into NetSuite or Sage?,’ And we were really reluctantly going down that path,” Van Der Molen says. “Conversations had begun, but then Intuit Enterprise Suite popped up and I was like, ‘This is exactly—exactly—what we want.’”
