Matt Lovett meeting Richard Branson
As part of our regular profiles of real small businesses, we caught up with Matt Lovett. Matt started in online marketing when he was 13 years old. He has owned a range of websites and different companies and now runs WOW Media.
What’s your business?
At WOW Media, we run a range of online services including vouchers, discounts, free samples sites and an affiliate network to help advertisers generate leads and website owners monetise their traffic.
The business started in 2007.
What’s interesting about it?
We put the WOW factor in our sites. We like to be different and stand out from the crowd. I started the company whilst I was still at high school.
How’s it going?
Good – we have recently expanded our network globally and are signing up new advertisers all the time.
We have a unique service in the pipeline which we think will really help companies in the online advertising industry!
What are the highs of running your own business?
Working when and where I want.
And the lows?
The stress I guess? Knowing that even when I’m ill I will have work to do.
What has been your biggest success in business to date?
In terms of meeting people, getting to go to Richard Branson’s house and meet him. Winning the Daily Mail’s Enterprising Young Brit award was awesome as well.
What mistakes have you learned from?
Not to rush or make snap business decisions. I have learnt to sit down and consider the possible outcomes of such decisions to make sure that it is right for the company.
Which businesses/entrepreneurs inspire you and why?
Richard Branson – he has built up such a huge brand from nothing. It’s all about the branding.
What’s your top tip?
Branding is key. Don’t let failure make you quit – keep trying.
Also, use the cloud. 99% of the tools we use are cloud-based, like QuickBooks Online.
What would you like help/tips from other small businesses on?
Productivity – I’m obsessed with it!
