Accountex, the biggest accountancy event of the year, is only a day away, so we’ve been questioning some of the speakers who will present on the QuickBooks stage on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th May (You can see previous Q+A speaker sessions here).
With extensive experience of working with accountancy professionals, Cameron is passionate about helping practices making their move into the cloud.
We spent some time asking Cameron about the upcoming event and his thoughts around the accountancy profession.
What are you most looking forward to at Accountex 2015?
Accountex is a great chance to meet and spend time talking to Accountants and understand what their plans for their practice’s are. Accountex is also an exciting opportunity for people to come together hear from industry “experts” and challenge them to ask the big questions about the future direction of the profession.
There is so much happening in the accounting sector right now, especially from a technology point of view. What do you find most interesting about the changes in the profession?
The great thing about technology is that is it the one great leveler as technology breaks down the barriers between large and small practices and between Accountants and their clients. Technology provides the level platform on which all can operate and then is comes down to how Accountants differentiate on the quality of their service and advice.
What do you think the next 12 months is going to look like for the industry?
There will be a lot of uncertainty around both politically and economically over the next year so I think businesses will be turning to their most trusted advisors – their Accountant – to help them negotiate the best path. Accountants can really capitalize on this to develop their portfolio.
Give us a teaser! Tell us one thing that we’ll learn at your session?

What are the key changes you’ve seen in small business clients during your time in the industry?
Small businesses want help planning how to grow their business. They want a trusted advisor to give the best possible options for to help their business flourish.
Based on these changes, what is the one thing accountants must do to adapt and remain successful?
Accountants therefore need to embrace this role as a trusted advisor and move the conversation on from being transaction based. The ones who do this well will be the most successful.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most people don’t know.
Having grown up on a sheep farm in Australia , I am sure the call of the wide open plains will draw myself and my boys back again one day. Hopefully by then the Internet cabling will have reached that far so I wont have to rely on a satellite link to use QuickBooks Online!
Cameron will be speaking at the Intuit QuickBooks Theatre at Accountex at 5.15 on Wednesday 13th May. To find out more about our speakers, please visit the Accountant News section of the Small Business Centre.
