Enjoying the cloudless skies – a guest blog by balanced.co.uk

It’s summer time – the sun should be shining and life should be easy. Yet across the country thousands of parents are trying to balance their normal work schedule and free up time to spend with their children.

At Balanced we take a very different view to childcare in the summer holidays. Our attitude to sitting in an office is very different too.

Our bookkeeping practice was set up with both children and parents in mind.  89% of us have children in primary school, which means that we are on call not just during the summer holidays, but for the school run, and during sickness days.

How does it work?  Well, we are totally results driven. Everyone is in charge of their own schedule, providing the work is done to meet client satisfaction which in turn makes us feel happy. It truly is that simple. Working in the cloud gives us flexibility to work wherever and whenever we want to – meaning we don’t have to miss important days with our children, like their first sports day!  Isn’t that every working parent’s dream?

To be able to do this we use shared cloud storage. All of our emails are IMAP and we have as many clients as possible using QuickBooks Online.  We can all access the software via the cloud and handover accounts to other team members if we are away. The benefit for our clients is that they can download reports whenever they need them, rather than waiting for us to be in the office.  We can also do internal reviews of each other’s work.  In short the system allows us access to what we want, where we want and when we want.

Recently my daughter was at an hour long class 20 minutes away,  so there was no point in going back to work in-between.  I found a local coffee shop with Wi-Fi and was able to log into a customer’s accounts email and send paperwork to ReceiptBank. By the time I had got back to work, the information was ready to pop into QuickBooks Online, this is just one of many great reasons why I love to work in the cloud.
