Business tips
If you’re a tweeter you may have noticed that just before Christmas Intuit was involved in the #12daysofSUB competition alongside StartUp Britain. Intuit donated a copy of QuickBooks SimpleStart to give away to the person who gave the best business tip each day over 12 days.

There were some brilliant tips so we thought it was worth sharing the winning ones here:

  • “Identify opportunity, get to market quick, talk to users to find out if you met the opportunity, adapt/improve” (@RedRookDigital)
  • “Ask for help, don't struggle on. You'll never know everything but someone else WILL know the answers & you'll learn from them” (@CustardandBear)
  • “Ask someone who doesnt know your biz to evaluate your branding. Does it say what you think it says?” (@ReeReeRockette) [Ree Ree has also blogged for us, you may remember.]
  • “Start with the end in mind: create a vision you wholeheartedly believe in and plan your moves backwards” (@plancakebakers)
  • “Don't try to do everything on your own. It will only delay progress. Focus on your strengths and outsource the rest” (@myTaskAngel)
  • “ur website is the face of your business wen your not there & You dont get a 2nd chance at a 1st impression so ensure its right” (@CombuteIT)
  • “Make sure your website is optimised for all mobile devices, mobile is expected to outstrip desktop usage by 2014” (@Si_Gard)
  • "Take some time off to revaluate 2011; What do you want more of in 2012? what do you want less of? who/what taught u the most?” (@TheDesignTrust)
  • “Find a great mentor and never be afraid to ask what you may think is a 'stupid' question” (@ilvstrangefruit)
  • “Business is taking your Values, making them into things OF value and then placing them in channels that find them Value-able” (@crouchendsocial)
  • “You can't underestimate how important it is to be a person in your brand. people buy from people, so don't hide behind a logo” (@co_deal)
  • “Entrepreneurship will test you in every regard. You need to be resilient. Every time someone says no, you say next” (@AhmadBakhiet)

Here’s what some of the proud winners said:

“Winning the 1st #12daysofSUB Twitter competition is going to be a massive step to getting the product and the business off the ground." (John Best, Red Rook Digital)

"Winning is a godsend…I adore QuickBooks (having used it in my previous business) and can't wait to start getting myself organising financially!" (Michelle Rose, @custardandbear)

"The laptop and software will be a massive help to Combute and will be a continual reminder of not only StartUp Britain and their invaluable support for businesses, but also a reminder that you will be rewarded in some way by helping others to succeed, even if it's as simple as providing others with a business tip." (Rob Winwood, Combute IT)

Are any of these tips particularly helpful to you? Do you have any of your own to add?
