I appreciate you reaching out to the Community. I'd be happy to answer your question.
QuickBooks Online allows you to open multiple tabs. Depending on which browser you're using, you can open a new tab and visit www.qbo.ca. You should be automatically signed in to your account, if not you'd have to enter your login info. Once you've opened a new tab and signed in, you can access your reports and other pages. Give this a try and let me know how you make out. I'll be here if you need me.
Thank you James for your reply;
The issue was not being able to access a new or multiple tabs (which is a very useful tool) while signed in to QuickBooks; I
wasn't able to open a 2nd tab by clicking on the + sign (The Open New Tab Button), but finally I came up with a quick solution to this issue, for those who are interested:
Hi BethFL. Opening a new tab allows you to work on multiple tasks at the same time. It's important you're able to do this and I'll be happy to help. To make sure we're on the same page, could you elaborate on what happens when you try opening a new tab?
When I click on the + sign (labeled open new tab) next to the tab which is open instead of opening a new tab I am logged out of QuickBooks and sent back to the login page. Up until last week when I clicked on the + sign another tab opened.
Thanks for clarifying this. It sounds like you might be having a browser issue. Temporary internet files that accumulate in your browser can sometimes cause bugs in the software and other websites. To ensure your browser is running the program properly, I recommend following the troubleshooting steps in this article: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online
You can also navigate in a private browser or use a different browser to eliminate any probability of a browser issue. Check out this article for compatible browsers to QuickBooks Online: System requirements for QuickBooks Online, Accountant, and QuickBooks Self-Employed
I hope this helps! Feel free to stop by if you need anything else.

I can do multiple tabs when I log into a clients QBO but if I log into my QBOA clients I cannot open multiple tabs, QBOA must think I'm trying to open a different company. Is there a work around?
Hi krys bods,
Knowing more what happens when you try to open multiple tabs when working in the program will help with determining what's going on. All the same, I've got a few points I can go over with you to help you get back on track with working with multiple tabs and QBO and QBOA.
I have a feeling you're working in the QBO app for Windows/Mac like others in the thread have mentioned, and there are several ways to open a new tab. When you click the + at the top beside the tabs, the program will default to open a tab to the last account you had a open in a new tab during that login session. When you want to see a different client, you can choose from your client list in the Go to QuickBooks drop-down in QBOA to bring up their work.
It sounds to me like you may be trying to open a new tab for an account you currently have open, which is what's bringing you to another client account. The easiest way to tackle this is by right clicking on whatever you're trying to open, then choosing Open in new tab. This'll bring up a new tab for the same client account. If you're trying to open a new tab for your own QBOA account, you can do the same thing.
Give that a shot and let me know if it helps. If it doesn't, please share more detail about what's happening and how you're going about trying to open a new tab. I'll be here to help. :)
I have had the same issue for over a year now. Sometimes it randomly works; but I gave up trying to figure it out and just avoid multiple tabs. Deep down I use it as an excuse to avoid getting on my books to clean up the logs 😅
A year is a long time to have an on-going issue that's unresolved. While simply not using tabs is a solution you can consider, I'd love for you to be able to take advantage of this option for working with your books. I know how much it can enhance the workflow and keep you on top of things more easily.
Please feel free to try the troubleshooting outlined in this thread already or use the options to contact our support team if you're still having trouble. I'm not seeing any open tickets for our engineers about this at the moment, but I know we've had one in the past, so it may be something we need to explore again. We're here to do whatever we can to help you get on track using QuickBooks Online.
I'll be here if you have questions about what's been discussed on this thread or reaching out.
I started this thread over a year ago. A few months after the original post the multiple tabs started working again. Now after the the last update I am not able to open another tab again. It is very frustrating to have the option appear and then disappear. I use the QuickBooks online app.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Since you're seeing this issue after the latest update, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling again, but if the issue persists, I recommend contacting support. It could be that there's an issue with the latest update that we'll want to look into to get things running again.
