Reports should be clear and legible so you're able to see your company data easily. I'll help get you back on track.
To adjust the column margins on your report, simply hover your mouse over the dividing lines between columns. You'll see your cursor turn into a grabbing tool, and then you can simply click and drag to adjust column width. This will help you resolve the issue of your headers getting cut off, and you can edit the look of the report to fit your needs.
That's all there is to it. Let me know if you need any help along the way.
The click-and-drag method is the only way to adjust the column margins on your reports in QuickBooks Online. If you're unable to grab the lines to adjust your margins, try clearing the cache and cookies in your web browser using these steps: How do I clear my browser cache and temporary Internet files? These stored Internet files can build up over time and cause bugs and latency in QuickBooks Online and other sites.
You can also try using Incognito mode in Google Chrome. This is a private window that runs independently from the rest of your browser. Here's more information about what that is and how to use it: Browse in private.
If you're still not able to click-and-drag the columns, please reach out to our tech support team so we can take another look at what may be happening.
Have a great day.
I have tried adjusting the columns using a private browser window in Chrome but I am still having issues. I am able to make the columns wider but I can not make them narrower, which is what I want to do.
I know how important it is to have control over the look and feel of your reports. The columns have a minimum width that you're able to narrow them to, so you may be hitting the default size. If you're not able to adjust the columns at all, I'd suggest following all the browser troubleshooting listed above. It's great that you've tried it in a private browser! I'd also recommend using a different browser type all together to see what happens.
If you're still unable to shorten your columns, please feel free to reach out to our tech support team and an agent can take a closer look.
I hope this helps.
Have a great day!
Quckbooks online report margins are not adjustable. Our reports from the QBO Mac App prints with tiny 1/2-inch margins and really wide columns, even when adjusted. QBO on the web prints too wide to fit on the page, and there is no "fit to one page wide" setting like on desktop, although you can switch to landscape. The best workaround is to export the reports to Excel, and print correctly from there.
QBO does it again. Taking control and changing stuff to suit them. This is so stupid. Why should I have to export to excel, AND THEN print? Give me a break. Let me adjust the margins like EVERY OTHER APP ON EARTH before printing. If it doesn't fit, THEN I need to decide. change to landscape, or delete columns or whatever. Can the user have a choice once in a while?!?!?! L. A. M. E.
QBO, for long time users of desktop there are certain things that accountants expect from their financial software. One is the ability to print a document from the software that works for us. This is a serious flaw in the program. Not having the ability to adjust the margins , or columns or 'fit to page' from the application should not be a special feature. It is an expected functionality. Please put this on the priority list to fix. Thank you.
I hear what you're saying about how the ability to move the columns as you're expecting in QuickBooks Online would make a difference. Our goal is to provide a software that meets the needs of business owners, bookkeepers, and accountants, and when something isn't working quite the way you're hoping it would, the best course of action is to contact QuickBooks Online support if it appears broken or to submit feedback if you'd like to see a feature enhanced.
I was just testing in my own account and see that for moving the columns in reports, there is some wiggle room, but there are also limitations. I suspect this may be what you're running into. If that's the case, please don't hesitate to leave feedback: How do I submit feedback I don't have a way to mark a feature request as priority from my end, but sharing your thoughts and ideas via the feedback option helps our product development team see what's important to users.
If you suspect something may not be working as it should or would like to discuss this in more detail, feel free to connect with our support team. Here's an updated look at the contact options.
Schedule a Callback or start a Chat: click (?)Help in the upper right in QuickBooks Online > type and enter "Contact support" into the QB Assistant > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback or Start a Chat.
I hope you have a great week.
I am trying to print my register report and it cuts the date partially off. (I just started using Quickbooks 2020) I need to move my margin over and can't find a way to do this. From the above messages, it looks like we can not do this, is that what I am reading? I have never used any system that won't allow this. This is such a basic tool that is very important to report printing, I mean I need to see the whole report, I am not going to take my report to my accountant and have to hand write the missing information on my report. Please help!!!
I'm glad to see you're using the QuickBooks Community as a resource to find answer to these kinds of questions. Knowing that you're working with QuickBooks Desktop makes a difference, so I'm glad you mentioned that you're using QuickBooks 2020. I can clarify the information that's already been discussed on this thread and help you get back on track with this.
Whether you're using QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks Online (which is what the thread has primarily been about up to this point), many reports have the option to move the columns, although there are some limitations to it, such as I mentioned in my last response on this thread. In your case, it sounds like you've run into a limitation since you say you're working with the "register report."
Knowing which report you mean exactly when you say register report would be helpful, but it sounds to me like you may be bringing up your chart of accounts, double-clicking an account to open the account register, and then printing from there. In that case, it's not possible to adjust the columns because the account register isn't exactly a report. I've just done a test and didn't see the dates cut off when I printed the register, even in portrait orientation. What you can try, though, is using the landscape print option instead to see if that makes a difference. This option spaces out the information more and may help with the printing being cut off.
If you're using something like the Transaction Detail by Account report through Desktop's Reports menu, it's absolutely possible to adjust the columns. In this case, you'd want to hover over the three dots that divide one column from the next, then click and drag when you see the cursor change into a line with an arrow pointing each way. When you adjust the width of the column, the program should also print it with that same width.
If there's anything you'd like to submit feedback about for QuickBooks Desktop, feel free to use the Help menu in product and then the Send Feedback Online option to share your ideas with our development team.
I also invite you to elaborate here on the report you're using and what's happening if what I've touched on doesn't cover your situation. I'm here to help!
