Crashing when trying to email and/or print invoices from an estimate

I just upgraded to 2020 from 2019 last week (after having considerable issues with 2019, but alas). Everything worked fine until Friday when I was no longer able to send emails. At first I thought it was an overall issue, but after doing some troubleshooting I realized it only crashed when trying to print or email any invoices that came from quotes. This is increadably frustrating as our company does progressive invoicing so if I copy it to a new invoice that is not attatched to the quote it does not update the amounts previously sent/recieved.

The attatched picture shows the issue for emailing, all I get is the transparent box and nothing else loads. I can't exit out of this screen, nor can I click anything else once I've opened this. I have to manually close QB through the task manager. When I expand the process its the app that isn't responding but the other process is CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess (32 bit) if that means anything to anyone.

The issue with printing is when loading the page number it just keeps going, the document I attempted to print here was 2 pages, as you can see it was at "page" 9987.

Quick edit, we don't use outlook. I know that's an issue that a lot of people have had. Another issue I have looked into is the windows update that caused printer issues, and I not sold on this being the cause as I can print from all other programs and apps, I can still scan and I can email invoices that aren't progressive.

Crashing when trying to email and/or print invoices from an estimate

Hello Gertley,

I really appreciate the amount of detail you've gone into here with letting me know what's going on when trying to print or email progress invoices from QuickBooks Desktop. The error message you're getting in particular is useful for determining what's going on and getting you back in business with using the program as you need. I hear what you're saying about coping the invoice being inefficient for your business needs, so I want to make sure this gets taken care of.

I'll start with the CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess (32 bit) message. Plugging this exact message into Google, there are a few hits suggesting that this comes from a browser extension. When QuickBooks Desktop needs to use Internet-based features, it uses Internet Explorer, so any extensions there or added through that browser may affect the product in this way.

I found this third-party article about this error message, and I encourage you to review it with an IT professional to work to resolve this: What does the CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe file do? Even if you don't think you've added extensions through Internet Explorer, I recommend checking in on this just to be sure. An IT professional is best suited to identify if this is the issue and assist you with dealing with it on your system. Once it has been, you should be back on track with emailing your progress invoices from QuickBooks Desktop.

As for the printing issue, I recommend starting with the Troubleshoot PDF and Print problems with QuickBooks Desktop article, which has a step-by-step guide of what you can try to resolve printing issues. If that doesn't seem to resolve the problem, feel free to get in touch with QuickBooks Desktop support. An agent will be happy to troubleshoot further with you. Learn how to get in touch with the Intuit QuickBooks Desktop software support policies page.

Wishing you the best with working this out!

Thank you for your quick reply. I definetly should have mentioned that I have attempted to use the PDF & Print error troubleshooter multiple times and it has not resolved the issue at all. Additionally, I wonder if Microsofts update to Edge has caused this problem, as they are starting to archieve IE.

I also tried to get ahold of the support and was on hold for well over an hour, I am the only office staff so I can not have our phone tied up like that. I tried messaging as well and never had a technician reply for over an hour before I had to leave for the day. I have also used the guide and no success, I even tried a fresh download, updating my printer driver, reinstalling my printer driver, updating quickbooks multiple times and updating windows. This feels more like an error between windows and quickbooks.

Additionally, the last time we tried to get IT assistance, they told us they won't touch anything to do with Quickbooks. The only time I see this process is associated with Quickbooks so if it is broken it would be probable that it is related to the software, as I have never used IE and according to the link you sent me the folder is in good working order.

I have seen other articles with similar problems related to the click-to-run office app, but I can't imagine Intuit is so far behind that they aren't working on intergrating an application that is well over 5 years old and pretty standard in offices at this point. If this is the case it would be good to know what they are doing to repair this issue as I require both to do my job and both are paid for (They should also make that clear befor users purchase, I shouldn't be spending more time on trying to repair the software than I am able to use it).

I appreciate the follow-up and the feedback about clarity in terms of compatibility between QuickBooks Desktop and other programs you might be using. It's great that you've already tried troubleshooting using the print and PDF article I included in my original response. Uninstalling and reinstalling the program is also a good way to troubleshoot these situations, and I'm glad to hear you had a moment to take a look at the other link I sent you about the error you're getting.

It's important to note that QuickBooks Desktop doesn't work with Microsoft Edge. Even if you have Edge installed on your workstation, the program will still use Internet Explorer, so that means the Edge update shouldn't be affecting the way QuickBooks Desktop is running and using Internet-based features like sending emails.

I hear what you're saying about the long hold times for QuickBooks Desktop support via phone or chat. It's a busy time of year with the new Payroll Tax Table release, and we're doing our best to get to every customer in a timely fashion. I know business owners are equally busy and being on hold can slow down your work day. The Community isn't built for the kind of in-depth troubleshooting that this situation calls for, which is why I'm recommending these other avenues of support.

Seeing as there are long hold times, I invite you to private message my team and I on one of our social media channels. We'll be able to gather more precise information about the situation, including about the office app you've mentioned and its role in this scenario. With these details, we'll let you know if it's something we can troubleshoot or if it's better handled by phone or chat support. Here are the social media support options.

Crashing when trying to email and/or print invoices from an estimate

Hello Wade10,

Although running into these kinds of issues isn't ideal, I'm glad you've found this thread about the error message you're seeing. As with the original person that posted this thread, it's important to me that you're able to find a resolution to this situation and get back on track with emailing and printing invoices in QuickBooks Desktop.

I've read through the original thread to remind myself of the issue and checked to see if the original person who posted ever connected with my team. At first glance, I'm not seeing anything regarding this issue, meaning that we'll still want to gather more details and do more troubleshooting. I recommend starting with the troubleshooting listed in this thread already, and then contacting QuickBooks Desktop support for further assistance. That way, we'll be able to gather the details from you to sort out what's producing this error.

I see it's been some time since the original thread was posted, and the person who did may yet reply with more details if they were able to connect with a member of our team to work on this error. Keep an eye on this thread in case they reply, but for more immediate assistance, I recommend contacting support directly.

Feel free to share here if you find a solution in case any one else has this error and comes across the thread. Sharing that kind of information is what the QuickBooks Community is all about.

Wishing you the best!
