With the strength of design leadership under designer Krsna Mehta, they design the entire range of products in-house.
The team also comprises Devaki Khimji, Managing Director, and Hadi Curtay, Technology Director. And while Devaki guides the brand through the market with her management skills and understanding of the global market and the electronic-commerce platform, Hadi Curtay helped create the technological backbone with his trail-blazing skills and experience with software. Curtay aspires to establish a strong internet-presence for the brand, for both Indian and international clients. We caught up with the team to speak about the entrepreneurial journey so far –
What made you start your venture? When did you start?
The operation was started in December 2012 with a view to providing modern, contemporary-chic, sophisticated, and affordable style with an All-Indian palette in various life-style products, from home decor to fashion to personal accessories. With the strength of design leadership under designer Krsna Mehta (Design Director, India Circus), we design the entire range of products in-house. This helps us develop a unique line of designs for our customers.
Have you reached break-even? What has been the key to your business’s success?
Fortunately, we are rapidly approaching our break-even. We believe that the key to our success is an acute understanding of our clientelle’s aesthetic sensibilities, which we apply to a wide and diverse range of products. Furthermore, maintaining accessibility is essential to our brand. Our e-store and e-commerce establishment facilitates greater reach, and indeed we deliver worldwide.
What are the major challenges in your line of business and how did/do you overcome them?
The major challenges we faced at the start was managing logistics, which however follows a controlled strategy. Also demand forecasting was another issue due to an overwhelming response to our products.
Do you have a mentor who guides/advices you on matters of the business?
IndiaCircus is blessed with a strong management team with the apt business acumen required to push a start-up. This has helped it to scale up the ladder without many hassles. A clear defined role has brought the best from the design team, the management and the technology team.
Have you benefitted from the use of any specific technology for your regular operations?
We employ the sharpest and most up-to-date technology to gauge the success of our online marketing, including social-media platforms to further establish our presence in the market. Paying careful heed to the data we receive from various technological programs, we accordingly forecast demand, and set goals to accordingly provide the most effective service.
What strategy do you follow for Customer Satisfaction & Expansion?
A robust and dedicated customer service team ensures that the customer has a seamless and pleasing experience right from the time the product is ordered till delivery. We also have tie-ups with reliable logistic partners (the best in line) to avoid any glitches. An easy dashboard for the customer to choose and make payments is also a high point.
A piece of advice for those who want to start-up or are at the initial stages of starting-up.
Patience and data-driven analyses in order to achieve a successful launch is the key. The initial stages are indeed the most gruelling and difficult, but acute attention to detail and intensive customer service analyses are essential to any brand’s success.
