Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online

by Intuit13 Updated 1 month ago

If your account statement and QuickBooks transactions are different after an account reconciliation, you can remove individual transactions from the reconciliation.

Important: This only removes specific transactions, not the entire process. If you want to undo an entire reconciliation, talk to your accountant.

Some reasons you might need to remove transactions include:

  • You accidentally reconciled a duplicate expense.
  • You sorted a transaction into the wrong category, and need to adjust it.
  • You reconciled a transaction to the wrong account.

Prerequisites

Before you continue, make sure you entered the correct opening, beginning, and ending balances when you reconciled. You may want to talk to your accountant first.

Only remove a transaction if you’re sure it’s why an account balance is wrong. You could have reconciled it by mistake, or it might be an error you need to delete.

Unreconcile a transaction

You can only unreconcile one transaction at a time.

  4. Select the transaction.
  5. In the tick ✔ column, tick the box with the “R” until the box is blank.
  6. Select Save.
  7. Select Yes to confirm.
