SOLVEDby QuickBooksQuickBooks Online345Updated 1 week ago

Learn how to add your accountant to QuickBooks Online.

With access to your company, your accountant can review your books, make corrections, and collaborate on any issues.

We also provide accountant-specific tools to help you prepare for taxes.

Need help finding an accountant?

If you do not have an accountant, we can help by connecting you with a ProAdvisor. ProAdvisors are certified QuickBooks Online Accountant users who can be searched and consulted by using our find a ProAdvisor program.

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary admin.
  2. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Manage users.
  3. Select the Accounting firms tab.
  4. Select Invite.
  5. Enter your accountant's info and select Save.

QuickBooks emails an invite to your accountant. The email has steps for how to connect your accounts. If your accountant doesn't have QuickBooks Online Accountant, there's also a link for how to sign up.

You can invite up to two accountants.

Note: Regular accountant users don't count toward your user limit. However, if you also make your accountant your company’s primary admin, they will count.

What does this mean to you?

  • If you invite your accountant and they already have a QuickBooks Online for Accountants (QBOA) subscription, they'll get a link to access your QBO company.
  • If you invite your accountant and they don't have a QBOA subscription, they'll have a chance to sign up when you send them this invitation. Signing up is free and allows them access to your QBO company at no cost to you.
  • Your accountant will have access to all of the features available in your version of QBO.
  • You can invite up to two accountants.
  • Accountant users have additional privileges that allow them to undo entire reconciliations, reclassify transactions and write off invoices.

If you no longer want your accountant to access to your books, remove them:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary admin.
  2. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Manage users.
  3. Select the Accounting firms tab.
  4. Find the accountant you want to remove.
  5. Select the small arrow dropdown ▼ in the Action column and then Delete.
  6. Select Delete to finish.
