Closing your books with the Workpapers tab

When you're ready to close your year-end, the following will help prevent unwanted changes being applied before filing your taxes.
Learn how to close your books if you are using QuickBooks Online without Workpapers.
After working on Workpapers, you can easily close your books.
Close your books
- Select the Close the Books option under the Book To Tax Actions drop-down menu.
- Select the Lock option.
- Set the closing date and password.
- Select Save.
If you encounter an error
- Select the Account & Settings option under the gear icon.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Select Close Books under Accounting.
The functions and data that are preventing you from closing your books display.
- Navigate to the Products and Services List if the item categories are preventing you from closing the books.
- Review your Out of Stock item categories included in the return.
- Clear the item categories, delete them, or make them inactive.
- Return to the Workpapers tab and select Close the books.
