by Intuit12 Updated 4 days ago

This article explains how to make corrections to employee T4 and Relevé 1 (RL-1) slips in QuickBooks Online Payroll using a year-end adjustment-cheque process.

Note: Currently, this feature is available for QuickBooks Online Accountant users only.

Editing T4s

Follow these steps to edit T4 slips:

  1. Select Payroll in the navigation bar and then select Payroll taxes.
  2. Select the Filings tab.
  3. Find the T4 slips you would like to edit.
  4. Select Edit from the dropdown menu on T4 Employee slips. A guiding tool opens to walk you through the editing process.
  5. Select whether you want to increase or decrease T4 values.
    • Increasing values will create an adjustment cheque to edit payroll data. The updates flow into T4s automatically.
    • If you need to decrease T4 values you will be prompted to contact support for assistance.
  6. Review your updated payroll data and select Proceed (Net changes must be zero or greater to successfully create an adjustment cheque. The net change can't be a negative value).
  7. Review if any payroll items need to be created for this adjustment and create them if necessary. Select Proceed to adjustment cheque.
  8. Select the employees that need adjustments and enter the amounts. This records the adjustment amounts to your books but does not start an actual payment.
  9. Review the amounts and select Submit payroll to submit the adjustment cheques.
  10. Once the adjustment cheques have been created, select Proceed to Tax Centre to preview your updated T4 amounts.
  11. In Payroll Tax Centre, select the T4 to preview or download the XML to file with your tax agency.

Once you download your T4 XML you are now ready to file your slips with your tax agency. Learn more on how to prepare and submit your T4 slips.
