Add or edit a sales tax rate in the QuickBooks Online app (iOS only)

Learn how to add or edit a sales tax rate using the QuickBooks Online app.
Do you want to add or change a sales tax rate using your iPhone or iPad? In this article, we'll show you how using the QuickBooks Online app.
In this article, you'll learn how to:
Add a sales tax
iPhone
- From the Menu ☰, select Settings.
- Select Tax Rates.
- Note: If this is your first time, you'll see an introductory screen: select Add tax rate to get started.
- Select Add a new tax rate, then select whether that rate is Single or Combined.
- Select +, then select Single sales tax rate or Combined sales tax rate.
- Enter the following information about the sales tax rate:
- Single rate: Add the information for each component (Tax Rate name, Agency, and Rate).
- Combined rate: Add the information for each component (Combined Tax Rate name, Tax Rate Name, Agency, and Rate).
- Note: Combined sales tax rates can include new and existing rates.
- Select Save.
iPad
- From the Menu ☰, select Settings.
- Select Tax Rates.
- Note: If this is your first time, you'll see an introductory screen: select Add tax rate to get started.
- Select Add a new tax rate, then select whether that rate is Single or Combined.
- Select New Tax, then select Single Rate or Combined Rate.
- Enter the following information about the sales tax rate:
- Single rate: Add the information for each component (Tax Rate name, Agency, and Rate).
- Combined rate: Add the information for each component (Combined Tax Rate name, Tax Rate Name, Agency, and Rate).
- Note: Combined sales tax rates can include new and existing rates.)
- Select Save.
Note: Use a Combined tax rate if your tax agency makes you break down this tax into multiple parts, such as city, county, and state taxes. |
Change a sales tax rate
iPhone
You can edit single and combined sales tax rates (including their names). However, you can't edit the name of a tax agency associated with the rate.
- From the Menu ☰, select Settings.
- Select Tax Rates.
- Select the rate you want to edit.
- Select Edit ✎, then make your changes.
- Select Save.
iPad
You can't edit a sales tax rate on the iPad. However, you can edit a sales tax rate from QuickBooks Online on the web.
- From a Mac or PC, sign in to QuickBooks Online.
- Go to Taxes, then select Sales tax (Take me there).
- Select Edit rates from the dropdown.
- Select the sales tax rate you want edit.
- Select the Edit link.
- Make your changes, then select Save.
Change a sales tax rate in a transaction
You can also add or edit a sales tax rate within a transaction including estimates, invoices, and sales receipts.
iPhone
- From the Menu ☰, open the estimate, invoice, or sales receipt with the sales tax rate you want to change.
- Select Edit ✎. A list of tax rates will appear.
- Select the tax rate you want from the list, or select + to create a new tax rate.
- Edit the rate.
- Select Save.
iPad
- From the Menu ☰, select Sales.
- Select the estimate, invoice, or sales receipt with the sales tax rate you want to change.
- Select Edit ✎.
- Next to Tax, select the tax rate to see the list of available tax rates. If there is no tax available, select Select Tax.
- Select a tax rate from the list, or select Create a new Tax Rate to create a new one.
- Select Save.
