QuickBooks Online annual recertification program for ProAdvisors

SOLVEDby QuickBooks169Updated August 11, 2023

The annual recertification program is designed to help you, as a QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor, get up to speed on the latest and important QuickBooks Online features and functionalities.

The recertification window is open from August 1 through September 28, 2023.

What are the benefits of the recertification program?

We continuously add new features to QuickBooks Online or improve the existing features. The recertification program is designed to help you, a QuickBooks Online Certified ProAdvisor or QuickBooks Online Advanced Certified ProAdvisor, get updated with the latest QuickBooks Online features and functionalities.

To maintain your certified status (and access to the benefits that come with it) you need to pass the recertification exam no later than September 28, 2023.

Do I have to recertify this year?

Recertified in 2022Yes
Certified before August 2, 2022Yes
Certified or Advanced Certified after August 3, 2022No

Still not sure? Don't worry, we send email communications to all those required to complete recertification.

By completing the recertification exam, you will maintain your ProAdvisor certification status, points, and ProAdvisor benefits including your eligibility for the Find-a-ProAdvisor listing for another year.

Where do I access the exams?

You can access the annual recertification exam from the ProAdvisor training tab inside QuickBooks Online Accountant as of August 1, 2023.

What is the recertification deadline?

The QuickBooks Online recertification exam must be completed no later than September 28, 2023.

How long does the recertification usually take?

If you are confident of your QuickBooks Online knowledge and are up to date with the latest product features, you’ll be able to complete the recertification exam in less than an hour.

Will there be training available to help me prepare for the recertification exams?

Absolutely! Training webinars will be available for registration within QuickBooks Online Accountant training tab. Bi-weekly webinars will be offered in English and French to help you prepare.

A recording of one of the webinars will also be available for on-demand viewing.

Do I need to attend a webinar before taking the recertification exam?

While the webinar is strongly recommended, it is not required. If you are confident with your QuickBooks Online skills and are up-to-date with the latest product features, you can take the exam directly.

Will CPD credits be offered for attending the recertification webinar?

Yes. CPD credits will be offered to participants that attend the live webinars only.

How many attempts do I get on the recertification exam?

You have unlimited attempts when completing the annual recertification exam. The exam must be successfully completed prior to the closing date.

What happens if I don’t pass my recertification exam by the September 28 deadline or if I don’t take the recertification exam at all?

If you miss the September 28, 2023 deadline, your QuickBooks Online Certified ProAdvisor or QuickBooks Online Advanced Certified ProAdvisor status will no longer be active. The accumulated points (100 for QuickBooks Online and 200 for QuickBooks Online Advanced) will be removed from your ProAdvisor point balance. If applicable, your listing on the Find-a-ProAdvisor directory will be removed at the same time.

Please note that a decrease in your QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor points balance could change your ProAdvisor tier and associated benefits.

In order to reinstate your QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor status, you will need to rewrite the full QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Online Advanced certification exams.

I’ve certified multiple QuickBooks Online Accountant accounts in the past, do I need to take the recertification exam for all of my accounts?

You may have received multiple emails to take the recertification exam on all of your accounts. However, you only have to recertify with the QuickBooks Online Accountant account that you’re actively using.

Do I need to pass the QuickBooks Online recertification exam before I attempt the Advanced recertification exam?

You only have to recertify at the highest level of certification that you currently possess. If you are QuickBooks Online Advanced Certified, you are only required to pass the Advanced recertification exam. This exam includes questions for both certification levels.

If I am QuickBooks Online Advanced Certified, how does the recertification program affect me?

If you’re currently QuickBooks Online Advanced Certified, you only need to take the QuickBooks Online Advanced recertification exam because this exam includes the QuickBooks Online recertification questions. If you pass the QuickBooks Online recertification section, but fail the QuickBooks Online Advanced recertification section, you will recertify as a QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor and lose your Advanced certification, your ProAdvisor points balance will be reduced by 100 and, if applicable, your Find-A-ProAdvisor listing will be updated to reflect this change.

Do I gain points towards my QuickBooks ProAdvisor Program points balance for completing the recertification exam?

If you pass the QuickBooks Online recertification exam, you will maintain 100 points on your QuickBooks ProAdvisor Program points balance. If you pass the QuickBooks Online Advanced recertification exam, you will maintain 200 points on your QuickBooks ProAdvisor Program points balance.

If the primary admin of the accounting firm does not recertify, will my individual listing on Find-a-ProAdvisor be removed?

No, each Find-a-ProAdvisor profile is certified independently and your individual listing will not be removed. Find-a-ProAdvisor profiles are created at the individual level, not the firm level, and there is no dependency on the primary admin being certified.

If I have an issue with my recertification exam, where can I go to get support?

You can access our support channels through the help link at the top right corner of the QuickBooks Online Accountant page.

How do I know if I qualify for the early bird recertification incentive?

Besides getting updated with the latest QuickBooks Online product knowledge, the first 1000 eligible QuickBooks Online ProAdvisors that pass the exams (in either level) and recertify during the early bird incentive window (until August 31) will be prompted with a message after they have completed the recertification exam.
