Communicating or Not With CRA

Dear Accountants and Tax Preparers. I have written my MP

and the Treasury board,

email, [email address removed]

a letter asking them to address the impossibility of contacting CRA. Pls consider writing as well. Feel free to use my letter.

 

Dear Mr. MacGregor MP Langford, BC 

 

I have been a bookkeeper and tax preparer for over 25 years. I have always been able to reach someone at CRA, with the exception of January thru May, which is tax time as you are well of.  To add to this madness, because of Covid, Accountants and every taxpayer have one (1) telephone number for each department to use to reach CRA.

Since last fall any department that I call just tells me the line is busy and to call back later. The line then disconnects.

 

The Canadian Government wants Canadians to file and pay their taxes, preferably on time. It is impossible for this to happen without telephone access to speak to staff.  I know of no “other” business that runs this way.

 

I understand that 2000 temporary workers are being hired to handle the calls because of Covid. But this does not address the issue for Accountants and Tax Preparers.

Why haven’t permanent dedicated numbers been set up for us to act on behalf of taxpayers in an efficient manner?

This is ludicrous.

 

And it should be obvious.

 

I would appreciate a reply but more importantly a SOLUTION.

I gave up communicating with the CRA by phone 2 months ago, after fruitlessly waiting on hold for 2 hours and being disconnected. I ask my clients to call the CRA this year.
