Does anyone know if box 34 of a T4RSP can be claimed on a rights or things return instead of the final T1?
Box 34 is Amounts Deemed Received Upon Death.
Sorry, it is not a Rights or Things item. It must be claimed on the deceased's tax return, unless there is a spouse in which case the executor could elect to have it rolled over.
Thank you for your reply. The spouse chose to get the payout. The spouse didn’t have any contribution room. If she had elected the rollover would no contribution room have had an impact on her ability to roll the RSP into her name? It was an annuity.
An annuity within an RRSP would qualify for rollover even if the spouse had no contribution room. The spousal rollover rules do not rely upon contribution room. The RRSP holder would have to issue the correct slip noting the rollover.
