Carry forward files from other software suppliers into Pro Tax

You can now carry forward data from other supplier's software in Canada including Cantax, TurboTax Desktop, DT Max, and TaxPrep.

This is a multi-step process which will require you to carry forward files in ProFile prior to importing them into Pro Tax.

Please note: the Pro Tax T1 module is not available until December 17, 2020. You will not be able to carry forward T1 data into Pro Tax until this time.

Download and install ProFile

  1. Navigate to the ProFile download page.
  2. Download the trial version of ProFile.
  3. Install ProFile on either a Windows PC or VMWare (if you are using a Mac).
  4. Enter your trial license key provided to you via email. Visit this page for more information on entering a ProFile license key.

Note: Your 14-day trial will begin when you enter your trial license.

Carry forward other supplier returns to ProFile

  1. Open ProFile.
  2. Review the steps for carrying forward other supplier files into ProFile.
  3. Download the files you carried forward to your desktop.

Carry forward files in Pro Tax

This sequence takes an estimated 15 minutes per 50 returns.

  1. Log in to QuickBooks Online Accountant.
  2. Navigate to the Pro Tax tab.
  3. Select Import returns from the return list menu.
  4. Select Import returns from ProFile.
  5. Upload ProFile files for conversion.
  6. Match returns to clients and import.
  7. Repeat the steps for the next tax module, if applicable.
