Chart of Accounts doesn't show income and expense totals in QuickBooks Online
by Intuit• Updated 1 week ago
Overview
In QuickBooks Online, the Chart of Accounts does not display income and expense totals because these amounts vary by date range and clear at the end of each financial year. Instead, you can view these totals by running a Profit and Loss report.
Understand account balances in the Chart of Accounts
- Asset, Liability, and Equity accounts: These accounts display running total balances. The amounts remain in these accounts regardless of the date.
- Income and Expense accounts: These accounts clear at the end of every financial year, and the amounts transfer to your Retained Earnings account.
Find your income and expense totals
Because income and expense amounts depend on specific date ranges, they do not appear in the Chart of Accounts. To view these totals:
- Go to the Reports menu.
- Open the Profit and Loss report.
- Adjust the date range to see the specific totals you need.
