Learn what to do if you can't sign in to QuickBooks Online.

If you’re having trouble signing in to your account, we’re here to help you get in. Here are some common sign-in issues and how to fix them.

There are a few ways to sign in with just one piece of information, such as your email, phone number, or user ID.

Your user ID is typically an email address. If you enter the email address associated with your QuickBooks account, Intuit will send a one-time code to that email to access your account.

If you can't remember which email you used, try entering your phone number. Intuit will text you a one-time code to access your account.

If you're locked out of your QuickBooks Online account, you'll see the following message: Too many invalid attempts, account is locked out for 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes, you can try to sign in again with a phone number, email or user ID.

Your old password could still be saved in your internet browser. Try to enter your password manually, if you still can’t sign in you’ll need to clear the data so you can use your new password. Once you’ve done this, close your browser and reopen it.

If you’re asked for a confirmation code after you sign in:

  1. Select how you’d like to receive your confirmation code, then select Continue.
  2. If you can’t access the email account or phone number listed, select the option Sign in a different way.
  3. Retrieve the confirmation code.
  4. Enter the confirmation code, then select Continue.

If you can't verify your account by having a code emailed to your registered email address, you can send us a request to recover your account.

  1. From the sign in page, select Create an account.
  2. Select an appropriate plan and follow the next steps.
  3. Enter your email address, mobile number, or other fields as prompted.
  4. Create a password, then select One more step.
  5. Follow the steps to complete billing and payments to get started.

If you have a user ID with your invitation, it should ask you to sign in. If not, you’ll have a link to create one with the email address the invite was sent to. After you create a user ID, you’ll be able to sign in.

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Select Help (?) at the top right.
  3. In the QuickBooks Assistant, enter the topic you need help with. You can also enter questions.
  4. Go to Search and select Contact Us to reach out to our support team.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
  • Select Start a Message to start a chat with a support expert. Live chat is available Mon-Fri, 8 AM - 10 PM and Sat-Sun  8 AM to 6 PM.
  • Ask the community to get help from businesses like yours.
  1. Check that you are able to sign in to other online accounts (for example, your email) using the same web browser. This will determine if the web browser or internet connection is the issue.
  2. Try disconnecting and reconnecting your internet connection to see if your internet speed will improve. A slow internet speed sometimes can be fixed by reconnecting to the internet.
  3. If you’re experiencing issues with your internet connection, it may be helpful to reboot your router or modem. This can usually fix connection problems and occasionally improve a slow connection, and resolve common wireless issues.
  4. Try switching to a different internet network instead of your usual network.

If you’re still unable to access your account from the sign in page, reach out to our live chat support to connect to an expert.

This means that QuickBooks can’t find an account that matches the user ID and password you used to log in.

If it has been a year or more since the last time you logged in to the account you're trying to access, it’s possible that the original account details have been deleted due to the period of inactivity. You can contact support to check when the account was deleted.

If the account has been deleted, you’ll need to create a new account to access QuickBooks. You can still use the same user ID and password when setting up a new account.
