Add custom transaction numbers to sales forms in QuickBooks Online
Use the Custom transaction numbers option to set your own numbering preference for invoices, sales receipts, and credit memos. This adds a number field where you can enter any number or letter format you want.

Turn on custom transaction numbering
If you want to use your own sales transaction numbers, make sure Custom transaction numbers is on in your company settings.
Go to Settings
and select Account and settings.Select Sales, then select anywhere within the Sales form content section.
Turn Custom transaction numbers on.
Select Save.
After you turn on the company setting and open an invoice, you must use the Modernized template to turn on or turn off the invoice number field under the Customization dropdown within the Manage panel. Once you've completed this step, you can switch to any other design template, and the invoice number field will continue to display.
Note: Invoices, sales receipts, and credit memos share the same custom transaction number list. The last number you enter becomes the next number on all three sales forms.
Change an invoice number
Go to All apps
, then Sales & Get Paid, then Invoices (Take me there).Select any invoice, then select Edit invoice. Or, select Create invoice to create a new invoice.
In the Invoice no. field, enter the custom number or letter sequence you want to use.
Select Save or Save and close.
